Hey all. I’m having an odd situation with my ambient lighting. I’ll give you the background first:

A few times now in the last 10 days I turned on my car in the morning and got this message on the driver console “battery discharging due to external electrical devices”. I googled it but couldn’t figure out why it would happen since I knew I didn’t leave on any lights etc.

Last night I happened to leave my house at night on foot and passed by my car. I saw that the ambient lighting was on - but just the 3 strips on the dashboard. I turned on the car and sure enough I got the same warning. I went in the settings and when I change the colour or the brightness of the ambient lighting, those 3 strips stay the same colour. When I turn the ambient lighting off, those 3 strips stay on.

I assume I’ll have to take it to the dealer but I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Thanks!

interesting, when did the stinger pick up 'extra' ambient lighting strips? I only have the one that goes through the middle of the dash. and no, this is a brand new issue, never heard of ambient lighting staying on and not being changeable.

It’s a 2023 Stinger so maybe that’s when they changed it?

Looks like some sort of electrical issue causing some of your ambient lighting not to turn off which is putting a strain on your battery. Do you have any aftermarket things added to your car?

The 64 colour settable interior ambient lighting comes with the MY23 Stinger. It goes across the top and bottom of the dash and along both front doors. You can have it dimmed down while driving. I leave mine on full day and night. If this is faulty for the first poster then take it back under warranty.

thanks for the detailed explanation. can the higher strip be turned all the down or off while the door and dash strips stay on? because I would not want ambient light positioned that high at night. I tend to turn down my dash / instrument lights quite a bit as is.

When my ambient lighting works, the dash and door strips are on the same controls so you can't do something for one and not the other.

that's expected but I had to ask. if or when I get a '23 / '24 model the ambient lighting would be turned down until I was satisfied with the top strip not being annoyingly bright. some drivers are not bothered by high interior lighting at night but Ima not one of them.

A lot of dimming options, and a lot of colour options to get it to a colour that isn't as offensive to your eyes on the dash. I think you will find a good compromise there.

No.

It's one adjustment for the ambient lighting. In fact I think most of the colours aren't that useful. They are very hard to see even at the brightest level hence about the only ones that are worth having on are the blues. It's a dial so you can spin it around to the shade that suits. The lighting is not distracting at all. You would not need to dim it.
