My 2018 GT is currently stock. I’m planning on starting with the air intake but having a hard time deciding which way to go.

1. Velossa big mouth, keep stock intake box, install K&N filters

2. Velossa big mouth, BMS or K&N intake

3. Velossa big mouth, Injen short ram

my concern is regarding the engine heat in regards to the Injen. Will the Velossa big mouth alleviate that problem or should I still install a heat shield of some kind?

also, do I need to install better blow off valves right away or can I wait a while?

I plan on upgrading the exhaust down the road

I went with the K&N intake and have been happy with it. You can wait on the blow off valves. I just upgraded to the MBRP exhaust and am enjoying the noise they make together.

I’d pick number 2. You will always have heat soak when you’re car is at stand still.

If you have to keep the stock look for smog regulations then I'd go with option 1, otherwise option 2. The parts manager at my dealership likes his Injen too, FWIW.

I went with the Jonny Tigs and while the extra noise is fantastic even without a BOV, if I had to do it all again I'd go with something a little easier and cheaper. I'm really happy with it now that it's on the car, but it was a hassle getting it here and getting it in.

Ok so if number 2 I’m thinking BMS because retains part of the oem box

I’ll have to check Florida’s regs but not too worried about it here

If you're going for best temps, stock box with panel filters and Jerrit snorkels. If you have loads of time and money, Johnny Tig are sealed. If you just want to wooshy noises, there's a DIY method that gets the same results as the not-cold-at-all intakes from K&N, BMS, Injen, etc. 3" pipe and 6" filter of your choice for ~$80. They'll all get hot air from a stop unless it's sealed so it's just brand swag after that.

Which panel filter do you recommend?

Don’t care about brand swag or appearance even, care more about performance.

After so many tests show bad particle filtration from K&N, I've preferred AEM if given the choice. Their panels are AEM-28-50067 and -68. Keeping these as a backup for the DIY in case I try any autocross and SCCA says removing air box bumps you from Stock to Modified.

I just dropped in the AEM filters and should get my snorkels installed first of April. I just can’t find non-manufacturer data that any of the intakes legit upgrade performance. I started a thread titled “Should I bother with intakes,” which felt like a nice summation of the conventional wisdom

I _would_ like more whoosh. DrMario, could you point me I. The direction of the $80 DIY solution? I’ve spent hours reading and don’t believe I’ve come across it.

Thanks!

I decided to go with the JA air scoops and the BMS intakes. Seems like a good middle ground price wise. I don’t expect to gain significant HP or anything but I like the idea unrestrained airflow. Hopefully no heat issues when stopped during Florida summer heat waves
