• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

So, probably an answer in here somewhere, but asking this to verify

1) can our Stingers recognize 93 octane or even 94 and adjust for it so the car runs even better ? or is it designed from 87-91 only ?
And if yes, to 93, does it run faster a bit ? are Car and Driver type runs done with 91 or 93 to get their times ?

I was running 91 on my drag strip video and was wondering if 93 would make a difference ?

2) Does putting small bottle of octane booster help ? Savvas Stinger here in the forum mentioned to me he believes are cars system will not detect the boost and it will not make any difference and wasting it in the tank.. Looking for any others feedback on this ? Not that I don't believe Savvas is correct, but wondering to be sure.
there's always 5 diff. replies to any question.

3) When should we upgrade our spark plugs ? Is it 100K or more like other cars or sooner ?
And are there any after market plugs that are warranty safe to use and get a better performing plug ? If yes, would plugs help acceleration ? Even if only tiniest bit ?

Side note, going to the track again soon.. hopefully for track time too and drag strip.... msg. if want to connect and bring some other car friends.

Cheers,
Stavros

Hi Stavros , I don’t think any of that octane boost or 93 vs 91 will make a lick of a difference (or none you can feel anyways).

Back in the day as you know, older cars you could advance the timing a bit, but eithctechnology these days, tuning the car is more elaborate. If you are looking for more power, I would look into installing the JB4 system (that will mandate use of at least 91 octane)

Thanks for the input.
I'm iffy on jb4 as I, right now anyways, don't want to spend money.
Was more looking for if these help, for 1/4 mile strip times, when I go sometimes. Not so much for everyday power.
But are you aware of if our car has been designed to recognize 93 or not ? and if 91 octane is in it, would it recognize the booster in it ? Manual says not to use these type o things, would it be an issue if used once a year or only 1-2 time ever ?

If you have a JB4, log your run on 91 and 93. I don’t use octane booster because it’ll make your spark plugs orange. I use ethanol instead. It burns cooler and cleaner.

The maintenance schedule calls for spark plug replacement at 42k miles.

If your car is experiencing knock it will pull timing, and with that ,reduce power output. Higher octane will help only if the car needs a higher octane fuels. 91 has shown sufficient for map 1 and map2 when good quality on JB4 cars(mine included) so 91 should be all you’ll need stock for sure

o.k. thanks for the info.. I am asking if our car is designed to sense 93 and adjust for it to run appropriately with it ? or is it only designed to recognize and run with 87, 89 & 91.
I already know 91 is o.k. for it and I use it too.

yes, the car will take advantage of higher octane but make sure it is not bad gas like some Canadian users have encountered. Our gas here in Cali is mega expensive and we don't get 93 but at least when I fill up at a shell I know it's not poor quality. You never know in Canadaland unless you have an e sensor and you data log. However to properly take advantage of higher octane you need a tune. I notice I do get some added boost when running e30.

o.k. so if I put 93 day before the drag strip day and drive 1.5-2 hours away to the track, it should have time to sense the 93 and make adjustments to run better, and technically (even without a tune), I should have better 1/4 mile times ? even if the slightest ?
We have 94 octane here too, at one brand name gas station.. will it be even better with that ?

Not considering the octane boost anymore, if it's not good for the car.

The higher the octane, less resistance to detonation/knock.

so someone mentioned spark plug upgrade.
Any brands to recommend ?
What diff. will they have in any way ?

HKS is pretty good but expensive. Denso is also good.

Do they do anything Better than the Stock ones ? If so, what ? I'm not as techy savvy.

And are they warranty approved ?

They can deny warranty if it is not from the factory. They have to prove it though. You can just gap your current plugs if you don’t want to spend some money.

Hey again. I'm getting mixed msg from folks out there from other sources re: our stingers ECU recognizing 93-94 octane and making adjustments to run smoother with it or doing whatever it's suppose to do when it senses yet.
Does anyone have an actual link to Kia site or somewhere official on this topic that will put a rest to the ACTUAL answer and not likely will or likely not, because my other car did, etc.

Looking for Professional link or Albert Beirmann himself to reply :-)
