3.5T Stinger in the pipeline? (false rumor! NVM)

What is the source of the info?

OK guys the rumor was true!
3.5L twin turbo Lamda3 engine producing more than 400HP will be used in the next generation G80 and in future high performance Kia and Hyundai models (=> Stinger and G70 mid cycle refresh).

*If the Stinger gets refreshed.

I wonder, will it survive if it sells under 1k units a month during 2019, and even less per month during 2020?

You are correct, IF. :)

If the K900 made it to Gen 2 I'm betting the Stinger will do as well ................

Keep in mind the K900 sells alot of units in Asia.

yup , and virtually 0 outside of their Domestic market , gotta be close in numbers or a nod to the Stinger

Keep in mind, this engine has been bored and stroked up to 4.1l (pikes peak challenge, 750hp) and offered as a "crate" 3.8l version. I've always believed a "GT-R" style Stinger could be possible.

Obviously sales (and profit) will dictate whether we ever see one, but it is encouraging to read news of a higher performance variant of the engine being offered in production vehicles.

I would love to read more about these. A quick google search didn't turn up much, can you suggest some search terms or provide a link to stories about these?

Thanks for the link, I saw the comments in the bottom of the wiki article.

Np. I edited the original post to add an article about the 750 hp engine Hyundai built, fyi.

Without checking most recent facts and figures, here's a different brands version of what I mean by "this engine"..

The Chrysler "Pentastar" has been the only V6 offered across all sub-brands and vehicle styles for years - from the minivan to the jeep to the Challenger, if you had a V6 (which is pretty much the base for most of these now), it had the same base engine. The mechanical configuration is virtually unchanged between them, but the precise configuration that affects performance - from cams and variable timing to ECU programming - varies significantly.

The "Lambda" engine in our Stinger is not unique, but it is uniquely configured, and has been offered in even higher tuned configurations for enthusiasts ("crate") or race teams. We can only hope that becomes an option of future Stinger models..

Feel sorry for the people who traded their 2018 for a 2019, not, lol.

..........................ya right ....................hahahahahaha
Why? Just trade it for the new engine when it comes out.[/QUOTE

I want the 5.0l V8 instead; maybe bumped up a bit with a 7500-rpm redline, flexible-fuel capability, and higher compression ratio. I'd settle for the 8AT, but would love a 6MT or 7MT; all in a RWD form.

Yummy.

Not on a Stinger, don't see that happening unless someone does an engine swap. They won't engineer something that folks won't buy in enough numbers to justify the cost of development. They might tweak that upcoming 3.5L TT for the Genesis G80 for some higher power than stock but then that would also increase the price a lot more if they decide to throw it up against AMG, M and RS.

That refreshed Stinger might be bad@ss now thinking of it(if it’s real), bigger motor and that new next-generation D-AWD. Might be a fun drive, hopefully they send it to Hyundai’s N division. Stinger GT3 N? Fun to dream, still do want a all Electric Stinger.

The "N" line is just for Hyundai. If Genesis does something, it won't be called an "N" tuned car as they want to keep things separate for the customers. In that same vein, KIA would have to come up with their own name if/when they decide to go that route. Now that the could possible do but my guess is that they would do something for Genesis first this time around.
