• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

I'm located in Southwestern Ontario and I drive my Stinger from mid April - end of October ... I store it during the winter as the road salts here destroy nice cars.

Anyway I haven't put it away yet and need to do the oil change first. I was thinking about changing to 20W50 synthetic as it's only a "summer" car --- no driving in freezing temperatures.

Any pro / cons to this? Or is 5W30 just fine for our summers?

I don't have the book handy but I think they specify a goodly range of viscosities. Dealer put 5/30 in mine.

Yeah it's in the recommended range. Just wondering if there are any gearheads out there that know if there are any advantages/disadvatanges to running thicker oil?

It's what I used to run in my 86' 911 for its first few years...then my wrench changed to 10W40.... he said the change was "because some of you guys drive these cars in the winter"

Not recommended at all. This is not a 1990 small block. I would not recommend anything other than dealer recommendations for weight and it be a good quality. Though it may be in the range I’m not a fan of trying to push 20w through tight tolerance engines on colder mornings. This isn’t Phoenix lol. I haven’t put 20w50 in a car since my 302’s to help with oil pressure hot.

Modern engines have tighter tolerances and you don't want a thick oil in there that takes a while to warm up. stick with a good synthetic 5w oil.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I use full synthetic 5W30 oil year-round in the midwest. It's probably the best viscosity to use for normal daily driving. There's also a whole oil thread to read through if you want to dig deeper.

Yeah I'll stick to the 5W30. Petro-Can full synthetic. Thanks !

Exactly .... Today these cars are far more sophisticated than in the past (say before 1985). For our Stingers, the design engineers put a lot of thought and work in to the selection of oil viscosity. Stick with the recommended weight ... you''ll be fine!!

20W50 is outrageously thick and won’t do the engine any good. I think a high quality 5W30 from Motul or LiquiMoly will be fine, or a European-spec 5W40 if you’re gonna run it hard when hot. The new engines these days all run thinner oil to enhance fuel economy as well.
