2022 Exhaust Talk

Did u end up finding any tips for your Borla Set up on your 2022? I just had my Borla installed on my 2022 and will need to quiet the drone

Why not just have a shop extend the pipes on the Borla exhaust into the faux tips like the stock muffers do? You could use an exhaust pipe connector to extend them out.......

did you guys get the Variable Exhaust software update? i did recently from the dealership and it sounds awesome in sport mode now.

code bsa468 variable muffler operation logic improvement

What could this possible do? The valve just opens or closes in Sport mode vs the other modes. I was just at the dealer Monday for my first oil change too, dang.

i dont know what it does, service didnt either LOL all i know is it sounds more throaty in sport mode and i dont think its coming from the sound system.
i gave you the code and what its called but i cant find anymore info about it lol

My '22 was built in April 21 so I do not fall under this TSB. I can definitely tell the difference but even more so after the catless midpipes install.

So I have been wondering this for months as well.

Can anyone answer this? I don't see a reason why someone would spend almost $1,00.00 on Borla tips when an exhaust shop can just extend the pipes a little. Is there some drawback I'm not thinking of?

I really hope the 2022 mufflers from Borla and MBRP will have longer pipes by default. That's another thing that puzzles me. Why have they been so short in the past?

I'm fairly certain that the Borla exhaust tips are non functional, in that, they so not connect to the exhaust tubing of any aftermarket exhaust, and would therefore not help reduce drone at all.

Thanks for your post. Going to take the car in for an oil change and asked them to check for TSBs, and the service manager found it. I have a January car and am hoping that this will make the sport exhaust more sporty!

@n8hegr8 thanks for that heads up. Just got the car back from the dealer and the difference in exhaust note is significant. Much more enjoyable in sport mode now!

I pulled the N19 fuse on it though...so it stays "open" all the time...it's really not that loud, as in it's not mustang GT350/500 loud or anything near that and it doesn't drone, so I like it with the fuse-pull a little better.
I assume that you are talking about pulling a fuse on your Camaro (not on your Stinger). Is there an equivalent "fuse" (or relay) in a Stinger to get the exhaust to stay open all the time?

Have any Aussies had the sa468 variable muffler operation logic improvement update ... or is this only for US / Canada models?

I'm from Australia and just picked up my 2022 Stinger GT and am also really interested in this. To be honest I thought the valved exhaust would be much louder and different to Comfort mode, it's certainly significantly different on my i30N. I'm going into the dealership on Friday and will ask them if there are any applicable bulletins for this, but given my car was produced in December, 2021 this update for US/Canadian cars doesn't seem like it will apply.

I have checked my MY22 - and the flap on the exhaust is:
  • open when the car is off
  • closed at idle as soon as I turn the car on (defaulting to comfort mode)
  • closed at idle if I switch to Sport mode
  • closed at idle if I go from park to drive in any of the above modes
  • will open if I rev the engine in any of the above modes
Makes me think that Australian MY22 does not conform to this previous post about "Operational Truth"

I wish that we could remove a fuse / relay (like in a Commodore / HSV) and get full time open valves. The only way I have seen to do that on a Stinger is this (if it works) ... which leaves us with exposed electrical connections that will get filled with mud and grit and cause other problems.

Interesting info…!
While I haven’t looked into it in as much detail as you have yet, my general findings and assumption so far is that even in Sport mode the throttle percentage and/or revs play a factor in when it opens, but I’m unsure if our Aussie cars are calibrated any differently than the Operational Truth diagram you posted - your findings would suggest maybe they are different.

I’m tempted to try the cable unplug on the valves to see how it sounds and operates until I can find a good aftermarket exhaust for the 2022 - I’m concerned that the aftermarket ones won’t line up with the standard tips and I’m not enthused by buying aftermarket tips from Ali Baba as I like the standard look already. I’m hoping Borla or MBRP may release a V2 exhaust for the 2022 which can utilise the standard exhaust valves for loud and quiet modes.

As for dirt or grit getting into the connections I’m wondering if it would be relatively easy to use electrical tape to keep them taped up and cable tie to the side safely. Will need to get under the car on the weekend and see what options there are

We have different suspension in Australia - so maybe also have different exhaust settings. Also keep in mind that the operational truth clipping was from another members post from years gone by - and there have probably been multiple iterations of exhaust logic here (and possibly internationally) since then.

When I look at the 2022 Genesis G70 video clip - his car clearly operates the same as my MY22. Valve immediately closes on startup.

As for just unplugging and taping up the ends - there are a couple of reasons why this might not be a good idea. One is that it is pretty tight and fiddly under there, and getting tape on all the right spots may be tricky. The other is that if you just disconnect, they talk about that throwing a "soft code" to the engine management system (so not a CEL - but a logged event that the dealer will see when they service the car). To avoid that - you need to buy the Exhaust Valve Delete Modules and Blanking Connectors (which appear to send a signal back mimmicking as if you had never unplugged anything). There seems to be two main types of these - 3 pin and 4 pin. From the video clip - we likely have 3 pin - so something like these:

Audi SQ5 SQ3 2013 -2017 Exhaust Valve Delete Modules & Blanking Connectors | eBay

which cost around $AU100 delivered from UK.

I'm tempted to buy these and try them.

It's a shame that it is not as simple as an HSV. In the HSV with bimodal exhaust, it takes 5 seconds to pop out a relay and then the bimodals are permanently open ... no error codes ... no blanking modules ... no cost. I wonder if there is a similar fuse or relay for a Stinger ... and whether perhaps one of the members here has had any luck finding and removing the right fuse to just stop power flowing to these valve flaps?

Hey man, looks like this thread died 2 months ago, but were you able to determine if the 3 pin modules and blank connectors were what we need for the MY 22? I'm interested myself.

Ours are definitely 3 pin. From everything that I have read, there are only two types of these blankers made. A 4 pin (which comes as a single or a pair) and a 3 pin (also as a single or a pair). We need pair 3 pin. I've read that all bi modal systems use these same 3 or 4 pin connectors. 1650411636547.webp

I haven't gotten around to buying mine yet. Let me know if you go ahead - whether you are happy with the results / sound.

just FYI, I replaced my exhaust on my 22 and I did not re-use the factory connectors for the valves. I just disconnected them and there is no CEL issue at all or any indication that they are unplugged. I just tied them up back in that area.
Not sure if that is your concern or you just want to plug the ends for the sake of it.

I know somebody mentioned some sort of CEL issue or something if they are unplugged, but maybe it is just pre-22 model years or something. Not sure, but my 22 has no problems.

I have the MY22 version of the JunBL EVC and I had a similar question. I reached out to David at K8 as well as JunBL on Facebook and was told that I needed to use the connectors provided with the kit. The plugs were probably 95% similar in but did not snap in, and also did not have enough voltage or something because they could not actuate the valve of the JunBL exhaust.
