2022 2.5T awd mileage mpg during winter

Haven't really been driving much over the last month, mainly local just to get groceries, usually 3-8 miles each trip.

Filled up today (~150 miles since last refuel). Overall average ~21mpg. I suppose this isn't too bad considering it is winter, but also includes 70 miles of none stop hwy driving. On the return trip, Usual miles/tank is around 400, this time around 360.

Are others seeing a significant reduction in mpg during the colder temps (20-30F)?

Normal. My lifetime mpg average has lost 4/10 of a mile this winter. I have a little over 71xx miles on mine. I’m averaging about 20mpg on a tank when I used to get 21 or 22mpg.

That’s winter gas for you.

I have an AWD GT2, so different engine, and living in the upper Midwest where January has average highs in the 20s/average lows in the mid single digits, probably have different climates. But since getting the car end of September, and putting over 7,000 miles on so far, my mileage hasn't dropped much in the last month or so (I keep track of all my fill-ups). I'm averaging 21 MPG total, with my January mileage being about 18.3.

Here's some data.


The last full fill up was 12/26. 12/29 (line 15) was a partial fill up. I expected poop mpg for january's driving. Refueling was about 45 miles away, all highway, 60-70 mph. I expected by the time I got home the total (DTE+driven) to be around 400 (maybe slightly less), not 360.

Canada uses imperial gallons yes? 4.5L (.CA gallon) vs 3.8L for a US gal). Is the charge above in terms of US or Canadian gallons? I used fuelly website a few times when I got the car, but a notebook and spreadsheet is easier. Update the sheet, toss the receipt.

Well, we don't use gallons at all, but when we do, we use US gallons.

^^That's right... Canada uses liters... only the US and UK are still @ssbackwards when it comes to using imperial and non-imperial imperial units.

180 mile trip about 2/3rds on highway, over 30mpg easy, max average on such trips is about 33-34. Alaska temps. The main issue with mpg is getting the car warm enough to drive (where it won’t just cold soak back right away), so lot of idle time in the winter. Will have to look at the overall average again, I *think* it’s around 22.

^^Maybe you got real gas up there, not this watered down ethanol "gas". Just before getting off the hwy on the return leg (~45 miles), it was showing 28.1 for the trip duration. Probably a good thing im not driving much... premium $3.70 at costco today.
