I just bought a 2020 Kia stinger drove it around 2pm got back in and it won’t start. Matter of fact it does absolutely nothing. The doors won’t locked nothing. Can somebody please help me?

Is your battery dead?

Is your battery dead?
I don’t think so. I could just cry. My husband recently past away and I know nothing about cars. The tow truck came and couldn’t tow it because it won’t go out of park. It’s like it’s immobilized somehow.

A flat-bed should be able to take it no matter what. May have to sign something that releases the driver of any damage if the car won't drop out of park.

Is this a GT2 by the way?

A tow truck driver should be able jumper the battery to get it out of PARK. Having said that I doubt the car should be flat towed….especially if it is AWD. It should be put on a flatbed or use dollies for the wheels that remain on the ground.

2020 is 2 model years old - did you buy it used? Some dealers (especially buy here, pay here for people with low credit) put immobilizers into used cars, and then "forget" to remove them, etc..

Howdy. Flatbed is the only way to haul an AWD Stinger. Do NOT tow it. It probably is the battery: the electronics are constantly demanding battery power even when the car is OFF; so, if it sits for months, the battery gets completely drained (the manual says to disconnect both cables if the car is going to not be driven for a prolonged period): a recharge won't hold; only a new battery is the answer. May your problem be sorted soon. Sorry you are widowed. We live with that possibility, every day, especially in our age group.

Battery is the place to start. See if a breakdown service can get it started for you. Let us know how you go.

Oh my gosh guys thanks so much for the feed back. Finally a tow guy came this morning with a jump box and it crank right up. I let it run for about 20 minutes snd took it around the block. Hopefully it will crank when I go back out. Do you think I should still take it to the Kia place snd have them check it??

Probably best to just swap the battery at this point. The dealer or even an auto shop like Advance Auto or Pep Boys can change out the battery for you with no problem.

Yes, for sure. A 2020 Stinger resold has sat for a while if you're experiencing this. These are really robust batteries, as long as they are not damaged from being completely drained. When you experience needing a jump again, you'll have the confirmation that the battery does not hold a charge. My battery is over three years old; the car has never sat for more than a day or two, and it still kicks over like it did on the dealership lot when I drove away. Be ready: this is an expensive battery, several hundred dollars, so, get over the shock now. :P

Happy to hear it's just the battery - As said take it to the dealer and have them swap the battery, at the very least it will start the documentation process if it happens again.

If a battery is completely drained/dead in most cases, it will no longer hold a charge. This has happened to me a couple of times. So, as others have said, it’s time for a new battery.

Does our battery need to be coded? I know Audi and BMW need to be coded when you replace the battery.

What goes into that? Is the coding esoteric stuff that only the dealer can do?

Yes unless you buy their programming tool.
Not properly registering the new battery will cause it to fail prematurely.

Lol I feel like this is a meme but I'll bite anyway... who woulda thought it was the battery... :p

I'm scared to ask how much they charged her OTD for the "2020 Stinger" and what type of "2020 Stinger" it even is.

To the OP:

Take advantage of the factory warranty that comes with the car since it is still very new. Also follow the owner's manual and that's it.

Good luck and feel free to post here whenever. People on these forums are extremely helpful and super chill. :)

"Fail", how, exactly? How does a battery that his hooked up to a car fail "prematurely" because it wasn't coded? This sounds like conspiracy territory to me. :P

You need to register the new battery on german cars. It’s not like plug and play.
