• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

2019 Map Update now available online

The Sat Nav is by far the worst feature in this car, I’m like you my wife’s 2017 Cerato Sat Nav is head & shoulders better than this abomination that they have in the Stinger, I’ve also relayed my complaint/opinion re this to my dealer as well.
Oh yeah, and WTF have they done to Sat Nav, I've lived in my home for 16 years, from day one I set my Sat Nav home address... Now I live in a 60 year old suburb, and the May Sat Nav update cannot resolve my home address, street or suburb... I'm not even going to look for anything else. I'm going to see if I can force a downgrade to the previous version, at least the things that mattered worked albeit not perfectly, now they don't...
So far, speed zone changes don't display or alert.
Speed and red light cameras are no longer reporting.
School zones are gone, even the one in my highrise car park in Melbourne (I used to at least get a laugh at this) and the one entering the Westgate Freeway at Millers Rd.
POI's are just utterly broken.
I seem to have lost entire menus particularly about what items to display on the HUD...
Cannot change the butt ugly purple menus, I'm all for a bit of retro but purple belongs in the 1970s, at least give us a choice.

KIA seriously WTF have you done to my wonderful car.

Sorry needed to rant a bit....

Totally agree, I’ve lived in hope that every update will be a vast improvement only to be disappointed, I’ll use waze if I need too.

Why don't you guys use apple/android car play and the maps on that?

Thanks. In that case I am wondering if it might be a region related issue (Gold Coast) with the new maps given both our Stinger and Cerato are experiencing the same issue since the update.
I will see what KIA come back with.
Hi Rastus,
I have the same issue . Car just went in for a service , they did an update and now I have lose School zone Alerts.
I’m in Sydney so would be interesting if they fix this issue.
Has anyone also been told there is a recall on their cars? I had the phone call to book my car in for it but they wouldn’t tell me what was being recalled for. Booked in a few weeks so will know more then.

Appears my '22 with a 6/21 build date is using 12/2020 firmware.

Are folks leaving their car run for an hour to do the update?

I was just going to hook up a 4 amp battery tender. Spec for the system says it draws up to 2.5A.

Thoughts?

Just go for a drive as you do it.

I tried that... It didn't like the microsd reader/microsd card (nearest one on my desk). It complained of an update error then aborted.

I returned from my trip then redid the download to an actual usb flash drive (samsung bar). Took a good 30ish minutes to complete. Lost track of time when a neighbor stopped by. Had it on the battery tender the whole time. All updated now.

I'm still baffled at the download size of 27GB. Seems huge.

Just did the update to my Stinger since I though it should be "good to do an upgrade", and now I see what you mean...

It's very Miami Vice ! Not quite the feel I was hoping for.
Shame they don't allow you to change between appearances, so when you're feeling a little like retro......and then something analogue looking when you want to get busy behind the wheel.

The ambient sounds are..... um...... sleep inducing.

Have you tried looking here ?

Has anyone had success reverting to the old version/maps? I'm kicking myself for not using a different SD card for the new software.....

I've done 3 error free updates on accessory power. The battery is rated 850 CCA so no worries.

With the April 2021 update I seem to have lost the illumination day/night setting for the map.

Clicking the gear just lets me fine tune the day/night brightness but not actually pick the day/night mode.

Am I missing something, did they move it elsewhere?

The nav manual shows this for the older version. As you can see above, daylight/night is missing.

I was able to downgrade sorta succesfully. If you go in to engineering mode you can force flash whatever is on the SD/USB. If you had a backup of the old version you could flash it.

2 things broke;
- UVO (for Canadians or `22 owners) wouldn't connect, I had to call them. They did a reset on their side and it fixed it immediately.
- kia's voice recognition. For whatever reason the voice database doesn't downgrade so it barfs an error on the screen any time you try to use it. That alone caused me to upgrade again because my wife uses it.

Before you mess with it, know that there's an upgrade log saved to the head unit, so they can see you've been messing with it. Pretty sure a factory reset doesn't clear it either.

Ya night mode is gone. I see you commented on my mapnsoft forum post. I hope they bring it back.

Hmm. Looks like I'm out of luck. I even emailed Kia H.O and asked if they could supply me with an SD card with the 2019 update and they said no.

My maps have always been in night mode ( since the upgrade ) but today I was stuffing around with all sorts of settings and now I have night / day modes. I'll see if I can figure out what I did that changed it and let you know.

Btw, here's a direct link to the mapnsoft forum thread regarding this illumination issue. If it bothers you please post in there. If enough complain they may revert.

I discovered it in the garage where the light sensor wasn't picking up enough light and thought it was night time. Can't imagine the reasoning for changing it from auto/day/night like it was before. It was simple, self explanatory and worked. A solution in search of a problem.

I backed up the old version but I don't think my Canadian firmware will do you any good down under. I'm not even sure if it's the same for North America.
