• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

2019 Map Update now available online

Interesting that you say that. I am using a 64GB SD card and my maps is working fine. :)

Fair enough, I tried a 32GB and 64GB Panasonic SD cards (these are free from work by the dozen but nothing smaller :) ) that didn't work but do with everything else.
When I looked into it at the time the Map App (not the manual as I stated earlier) said only 16GB compatible SD card. So I went and paid $10 at Officeworks and got a Sandisk 16GB SD Ultra card and it worked when a Panasonic SD cards didn't. I wanted to save the original card in case the update went pear shaped but it didn't.

I didn't bother taking any more notice of this as it's only for maps which are less than 6GB on the card, and the card cannot be used for anything else such as music etc (page 10 Infotainment manual).

In fact I shared a copy of the update Image on the SD card sometime ago with another Aussie member on here who was locked out from their updates by the dealer and wanted to update the maps them self, they confirmed a similar experience.

Happy for you Penguin, but what are you using such a big card for, it's not like it can be used for anything else anyway?

Just use the card that’s already in the car it works fine and from memory gives you an option to back it up before it copies over the new version. Not sure if it saves the entire old version or just the user added things like home/work/points of interest etc

Fair enough, I happened to have a lot of 64GBs and above SD cards only. I was not going to use a 128GB or 256GB SD card for my maps. 64GB was the compromise for me:)

Is your Panasonic SD cards formatted in the same file structure as the Officeworks one (i.e. FAT32, NTFS, etc)?

Also, did you have any problems sharing the update with someone else? I was curious if the update somehow locked itself to a particular car, card or account..

Yes of course. I really didn't need any assistance in this, my maps were updated moths ago. merely sharing my observations and experience. but thank you anyway.

No not at all. but US may not be the same. In Australia we have a web site which loads the update on the SD card, at this point you can clone the card as many times as you like and share it. Once a SD card has been used to update the maps in a single car, it cannot update again as it unpacks the update to the SD card, and the Navigation system and removes the update software from the SD card.

I have pulled the entire update package apart, there is no security that I could find that ties the update to the car even though to get access to the Update site in Australia, you have to register your VIN Number.

Ok... excuse my ignorance,

But what is the website for for the Australian owners kia portal, I tried registering, put in my vin and it said it didn't exist... I then realised I was on the US site haha.

I like the convenience and integration of the builtin nav and maps (compared to using google maps), but it's a pity they're so out of date. I have the latest (AUS.12.47.51.632.001.2) but every time I go in the West Connex tunnel it thinks I'm going cross country.

I don't find using google maps to be any less convient, the reverse actually especially as they are up to date.
I use carplay for music anyway so bringing up google maps is as easy as the built in nav.

The built in maps is great with the HUD guidance although it sucks you can't navigate to an address with voice like you can with carplay.

I prefer android as a phone but apple carplay display is much nicer I think personally.

I got my Stinger new in April this year. Do you think it would be running the latest maps?

Most likely but you can check if you go into system info settings. Here is the latest

Thanks for that. Just checked mine. Looks like an older version. Will have to look at updating soon.
It’s pretty easy to do, go to the website, enter the details, download and copy to the SD card and put it back in the car. Shouldn’t take too long if you’ve got a good internet connection. It’s not complicated, better off doing it yourself rather than having the dealership do it, due to having to register your VIN on the website. I’m sure people have posted the dealership did their original update and now they can’t create an account due to the VIN being linked to the dealership

Hi there @ShannonC , I notice the bezel around the screen is a Carbon Fibre look, is that like a decal placed over the original bezel ?
Good observation, yes it's a decal. Not a 100% fit but it's ok. Got it off eBay, around $18 now concluding postage.

Just tried to update and found out that it will only download to a computer running Windows 7 or newer. What did people do trying to update using MacBook Pro?
