Popped my VIN in and got nada.

Possible it won't be live until December 20. Also possible it won't ever be live since they said all 16k 2018s sold in U.S. need to be checked.

Sweet, I'll only have to make my 12th visit to a dealership.

When it comes to inspecting the harness, is that something they'll have to remove the fender for, or is it just something they can check by lifting the hood? Don't trust my dealership to be taking the car apart.

What's interesting, looking at the chronology report is the Stinger owner initially refused to let Kia inspect the car after the fire.

The owner didn't permit Kia's engineers to inspect the car until 3 months after reporting the fire.

Also interesting is I believe the location Kia's engineers identified as the problem area is the same spot people run wires through the firewall to connect tunes to the OBDII port.

I can easily put those facts together and create a conspiracy theory, but I wonder...

It's kind of weird how they worded the location but I think it's accessible either in the engine bay or under the driver side dash (if they mean "driver side" when they say "left side").

I wouldn’t be surprised if that wasn’t the owners insurance company not wanting to let them inspect it until they could get their ducks in a row for a potential litigation.

Transport Canada has a recall (2018598) issued on 10/28/2018 for this as well, applicable to 1,426 cars. My VIN is not affected. A recall search can be done here for Canadian cars:

Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database

Website says my VIN isn't affected either BUT I DON'T TRUST IT. I doubt Kia Canada has updated their database to account for this recall and the affected VINs. My car's date of manufacture is October 2017, so I have one of the earlier productions. The next time I'm at the dealership, I'll will probe further on this recall.

I guees we will need to be on the look out for a letter from Kia.

He probably has an impossible to pronounce first name.

Looks like it's Ju Seog Park. Stretched the limits of my Google-Fu just now, lol. Probably just a humorous chosen Americanized name.

Me thinks this is probably the harness rubbing the fender. It's behind the driver side strut tower on the rear down slope of the front fender. It appears mine has also come equipped with dry leaves for additional kindling.

So the link is showing the AWD Stinger for recall, is it also the RWD?

Entered my VIN and got nothing. Are they in the database yet?

This is hilarious.

I went to my dealer this weekend and surprise surprise, they had no knowledge of the recall. None!

Same thing happened with me. I asked about the wiring harness recall and they said "oh no, we already fixed the vibration in the hatch." what???? I'm getting really tired of going to dealerships and knowing more than the guys who do this for a living. I understand they service a lot of cars and deal with a lot of people, but come on...
