most cheap cars have a switch inside to open the tailgate from inside.
why is the world KIA stinger is missing this capability on some models?

I though that was a trunk safety thing? You can’t really get trapped in the hatch area.

I wondered the same thing. Until I realized that having the key fob on your person makes the trunk virtually "open" at all times. You just walk up to it and lift. Voila! Why would you need a release switch in the cabin? That would be redundant. And it would create the situation where you release the hatch and drive off with it rattling.

I drive off with the hatch rattling all the time now  two visits to dealer and hatch still rattles. Maybe third time will be the charm. Seriously though, I would like to see Kia or aftermarket manufacturer offer upgrade to auto tail lift for baseline GT owners. I know there was another thread about that subject and it not being cost effective, but it would still be nice none the less.

Ah, the "rattling hatch" problem. Not as if your hatch is rattling open. But annoying I am sure! As I asked before: why can't an adjustment be easily worked on this? A rattle is so low tech anybody ought to be able to ID what is causing it and FIX IT. What is going on with the hatch to make it rattle? And retrofitting an opener would not address the hatch rattle at all. If anything it could cause a rattle that hadn't been there before.

Is this true in order to install an electric tailgate lift , they need to tap into car's computer to make modification which will avoid the warranty?
if this is not the case I am all up for installing after market power tailgate lift if there is one.

the fact that you have to press the button on the tailgate to pop open the trunk is very unconventional. the inside switch on KIA optima for example, pops open the trunk when it is pressed. or when the button on the remote is pressed the trunk will pop open on optima where you still need to press the button on the tailgate on stinger. I am saying the I like the trunk could pop open on stinger same as other cars. thanks

I think the difference is it's a hatch and not a trunk. But, I would not mind having a release by the driver's seat.

I don't think it would work well without a powered liftgate.

Our hatch is huge and has a large, heavy peice of glass in it. A trunk on a car is small and lightweight.

Unlatch, not lift.

I know the Stinger's hatch release is unconventional. It's also eminently functional. If you just use it as it is and not compare to what we are used to I don't have a problem. We are creatures of habit. Perhaps it was easier for me, since my hatch release switch on my ancient Voyager hadn't worked for years. I always had to insert the key and twist it in order to raise my hatch (which then had to be propped up with a broom handle, because the right side hatch piston had suffered metal fatigue and snapped off; so the Stinger is like blessed functionality by comparison! :P).

Unlatch, not lift.

If my hatch unlatches but doesn't lift at the push of a button I would have today do the exact same amount of work to open it as I would if it didn't unlatch.

Am I missing something?

Eliminate the push of the latch release. Just raise using the bottom of the hatch. I have had SUV's that did not have power lifts but still had the latch release by the driver's seat.

Perhaps this is a regional issue? My Stinger GT2 has a remote trunk release inside and the hatch automatically opens when I stand behind the car, use the remote or the button inside the car. It automatically closes too. Convenient if your hands are full. You never have to physically touch the trunk.

The question is about the models that do not have power hatch.

Which is all of them not a GT2. (Outside the US, who knows?)

There are plenty of use cases. Basically any time the driver isn't the one opening the trunk. The trunk doesn't unlock with the doors, so it's a pain to have someone else get into it.

You're sitting in the driver seat and wife wants something out of the trunk? You've gotta dig out the keys. Or when you're unloading the kids from the back seat, and you go back outside and she's just sitting there twiddling her thumbs because she can't open the trunk without you. Or maybe the car is unlocked in your garage and you're busy/away, but someone wants something out of the trunk. All of these from personal experience last week. Lol.

Also, what happens if the key fob dies and the replacement battery is in your trunk? Haha.

Of course, if you always go solo, then you're fine. I've personally never had issues with the trunk because I always have keys on me. My wife, on the other hand, hates it.

I agree it should be there no matter which model you have. I've had to open the trunk or lift-gate on many vehicles from inside more times than I can remember..

Here's a wrinkle that I think occurred yesterday. I was sitting in the driver's seat, car on. And my wife got out and walked to the back and tried to open the trunk. Nothing doing. I had to get out and stand by the trunk before it would open. Had I left the key in the car, I wonder if it would have opened for me, being keyless? I'll have to try this later. Scientific research continues ... :P
