I just bought a 2.0L Premium last Friday (yay!). However, I am beginning to wonder if all the dealer prep work was done. I checked the tire pressure this morning, car inside and tires cold. It was 56 lbs all around, so I know they never checked that. I also tried to raise the windshield wipers to Rain-X the windshield, but they don't clear the edge of the hood (hood closed), which doesn't seem right to me. Are they installed at the factory in a low position so they don't catch on anything during transit? And lots of plastic film on interior parts that I would have expected to be removed.

So I'm wondering if anything else important has been missed. Can anyone enlighten me here? It would be good to be fully informed when I call the dealer tomorrow.

Thanks,

Rich

"Prep" is kind of a joke, if you are expecting a thorough job. I was still finding plastic coverings a week later. The funniest one was the black strip along the dark chrome of the passenger door; it didn't show very well, and I hadn't made an inspection. My son discovered more plastic inside on the passenger side during our road trip to TX; that was over a half month after I bought the car!

Wipers. I don't like the danger to the hood, regardless of how much manual instruction we have been given. Something is going to go wrong, probably some maroon in the service shop, somewhere, sometime literally down the road: s/he won't know what the heck they are doing and the rear edge of the hood will get chipped. It's just a matter of time. I can be 100%, but I am not the only person who is going to operate the wipers or try and clean the windshield. You can bet that if this car went into a full service gas station in the old days, the rear edge of the hood wouldn't last one week before being dinged.

Did you get an owners manual?

Got one, didn't read it closely enough, I guess. Thanks for straightening me out on that aspect!

I wonder if there's a good spot for a warning label or two to prevent that?

I’m still finding plastic coverings, too. Today is a month I found the last ones a couple of days ago. I saw the car in the storage lot. It does have the most plastic sheets I’ve ever seen. So I can’t really blame them. Though some were kinda obvious if you’re prepping a car.

I have mentioned this before and it is entirely the dealer's fault. Here's what's happening:

The Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) "should" be done by a Stinger-trained technician. The recurrent problem with over-inflated tires is a good example of a service department either NOT using a trained technician for the Stinger, OR the technician is short-cutting the PDI. A proper PDI should take about 1-1/2 hours including the road test. The tech inserts a tablet into the computer connector and is supposed to follow a checklist that appears on the screen as the tablet software verifies the PDI is done and OK.

New car cleanup is NOT done by technicians, it is done by the guy on the wash bay or lesser newbie mechanics. These guys are paid less money so service managers often use them to save bucks. The car should be totally clean and free of all plastic and packing material prior to the technician road test. Many dealers do not perform road tests because it takes time and costs them money. There is no excuse for presenting a car to a new customer with crap stuck all over it.

Id prefer to take delivery of the car without the car prepped or cleaned honestly.

Agreed...52 PSI on my tires all around, headlights pointed at the ground, multiple strips of plastic throughout and no SD card are all the ones that come to mind.

Oh and orange "dot" stickers on all 4 tires that when removed left bad adhesive residue, to which i was asked, do you want "us" to handle that or can you when get home?

PDI...joke

While I didn't find any unwarranted plastic on my car, I did find some adhesive on both front doors and both outside mirrors, as well as some greasy smudges on the paint. I know they were tight on time between the car arriving and me taking delivery, but I would have expected better attention to detail. As soon as I pointed out these issues, however, the dealer immediately made arrangements to have the car detailed again. They did correct the problem once it was identified, so I'm good with that.

Did you not receive a full listing of the required PDI elements with the paperwork on the car? I received a red 'Welcome to the Kia Family' folder, which contained a full page for the 'Pre-Delivery Inspection Checklist' signed off by the technician and the service manager, another page for the 'New Delivery Checklist' signed off by the salesperson, dealer management, and myself.

It also contained a page titled 'In-Stock Vehicle Maintenance Record Sheet' for checks & services done every 30 days, which had nothing on it - I took delivery right off the transporter, as soon as they completed the PDI and we went through the new delivery items.

If you didn't receive these, the dealer should have them on file and provide you with a copy. Check and see if there is a checkmark on the PDI sheet beside 'set and record tire pressure to normal load pressures', as well as what values are written there.

My tires had those stickers too. Had to go get some goo gone. Actually they were on the rims.

Yep i got all of that too and every box had the tick mark. Even the SD the box that said "install Nav SD card" Sure enough, ticked. Go to drive away, no NAV and no map. Oops, the SD card still in the safe.

My point being, just because its ticked dont mean someone actually did it.

Yes, I realize that. The OP was asking what was contained in the PDI, so that is the document that details it.

Specifically in this case, if they recorded tire pressure measurements without actually measuring them, then either 1) whichever service technician signed that document is not following policy, or 2) their service manager is complicit in allowing (and signing off on) fraudulent declarations of work performed. That step is not simply a box skipped over or checked by accident, as it requires recording specific visual measurements.

Either way, a reputable dealer should want to address it.

.. and the Stinger customer service dept. might be very interested to hear about it!

I think we are on the same page. For my tires, when i asked the dealer about it...literally my response was "hmmm" with a shoulder shrug...

I can tell you that after that, they most likely wont be seeing my car for service

Agreed here as well. I have been very impressed with that line so far.

I am dealing with paint chip issue in other thread and the customer care line flat out stated "If the dealer wont follow these instructions, call me while there and i will handle it with them" I was floored to hear that! That number has been added to the speed dial!

...and yesterday while mounting the door handle ornaments I found another clear tape on the overhead handle, passenger rear.

I found tape for weeks and in places that made you wonder why they would put tape there
