Driver side windshield wiper arm issue?

I'm finding this design style for the wipers to be a bit of a nuisance. I would have preferred that we can lift the wiper arms without damaging the paint on the bonnet. I'm not sure if KIA went with this design because of the shape of the windshield and bonnet, but this should be changed going forward

You should read the thread. Someone posted a page number of the owner's manual that details how to lift the wipers without hitting the hood. Check the first page.

That doesn't cancel the fact that things should be convenient to use and you/serviceman/washer don't need to think twice about "how to do it properly" if that's the way for most vehicles.

Yes, I understand the procedure for putting the wiper arms in the service position, but that does not take away from the fact that this design is cumbersome

I agree. This is the first vehicle that I’ve ever owned that requires the blades to be moved from a procedure inside the vehicle. My dealership agreed to fix the scrape on my car when I take it for my appt on Thursday.

How are they planning to fix it? I noticed a chip in the same place on mine the morning after I took the car home. Went to a body shop today that said the correct fix would be to repaint the whole hood, but didn’t recommend doing that on a brand new car.

When they looked at it I think they believe it can be touched up. I'll get the exact process they use and I will post new pictures of what I have done so everyone can see.

I decided to touch this up myself with a matching paint pen from Kia. It's not perfect, but with the naked eye I wouldn't even notice it. I may or may not do any wet sanding with 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper to smooth anything out. I'm going to watch it for a while to see if it bothers me. This is the area that was touched up by me.

Right on! I got my paint pen today and was planning on taking care of it myself as well. Will probably do the xpel film along the entire edge for future protection.

There are a few videos of how to use it. Make sure you dab along the area. The paint will adhere on its own and form to the car. I'd recommend watching a video to follow the proper technique. Good luck and be patient.

Great job on the touch up! You’re a pro!

The parked position of the arm cleans up the lines, and is becoming more common across every manufacturer. I agree it's not as convenient, but they could put a warning label or, better yet, a small "parking bracket" that locks the arm down when in that position - similar to the ones you see on the rear window of some vehicles, that lifts the arm from the window slightly when parked.

I have chips in the same place. Picked up car on saturday. The car was fresh off the truck, the dealer had only inspected it and did not wash it per my request. In my case I think this happened before it ever got to the dealer. I havnt said anything to the dealer and probably wont. I plan on seeing if a pro can touch them up and then I will have the front clip covered in ppf, something I already planned on doing.

Welcome! I'm sure it'll look fine once covered up...

Thank you. The chips arent bad but once you see them you cant unsee them lol. Once they are touched up it wont be noticeable at all.
