Subwoofer Install Questions: Best Approach

That's exactly what I did. I tapped the OEM sub wires for signal, used an AudioControl LC2i to convert them to line level, and used a JL amp and bass knob (as well as some tuning on the LC2i) to power the sub!
wait did you tap into the wires before or after the amp though? I couldn't figure out where the input wires were on the wiring diagram, just the outputs.

Does anyone know what the amp is for a GT2? Also does the GT2 have one or two subs? What kind of wattage does the factory amp put out for 2 ohms?

this is the best thread for a subwoofer install in the GT1 and GT2.

I tapped after the amp. That's why I used the LC2i as it can easily handle the input power. The input on the OEM amp is SPDIF. There aren't any analog inputs that I'm aware of.

Pinout is in this thread:

got my subwoofer installed. My big mistake was somehow reading the diagram wrong and connected to the surround sound speakers. Once I got that fixed it worked perfectly. Big shout out to boss. That sub was only $45 and I’ve never had one so clean and intense. Boss 750/1400w 12” subwoofer, premade ported box, planet audio mono amp bridged for 750w, and a Gravity active LOC. Altogether around $250 with all the wiring and stuff. Wanted to keep the spare so I box-mounted everything for easy removal. Everything has vibration deadening under the mount points. The whole box is velcroed onto the trunk mat.

Is a 1500 rms amp to much for the car I have one laying around and was considering it for some subs

Too much is VERY subjective. It kinda all depends on what you want to hear in your music.

Also, what is the ohms of the amp?

When I say to much I don't want my lights to dim on bass drops and I belive it is set at 1 ohm

Yeah, you may want to look in to a cap. The 180 amp alternator and AGM battery may be able to hold you if you aren't running the A/C and other draws.

Personally, I wouldn't go below 2 ohms, but I like a bit of quality over straight volume.

Is there any way to modify it to run maybe 2 ohms or 4 ?

Do you think there is a chance I could run the amp with speakers and tune it to not dim the lights?

Depends on the sub(s). Most can be wired up for 2 or 4 ohms.

Yes, a capacitor will allow you hit the high load(s) without sacrificing power drain from the rest of the car's system.

Totally forgot about a capacitor I may just use that with the amp.

A cap can work but deffo check your grounds as well. 90% of light dips can be attributed to an imperfect ground.

Did you ever end of using those Kicker subwoofers? same ones i am thinking of installing pretty soon.
I have been considering the 12” low profile sub below. It is sturdy but still had one active and one passive 12” sub in it. I think I would need to add another dedicated sub amp though? It is a 500 watt 2 ohm sub.

Wow I know that back window be like what is going on? Lol nice!

Sorry to resurrect this thread but it seems everyone's connectors have red and blue plugs and the amps slightly different. I've got one with yellow and green plugs. Note this is a GT-line 2018 and has the 9 speakers.

Edit: most of my post was lost.

I'm wanting to tap into my factory subwoofers to run an active/powered subwoofer. Looking online it seems my plugs are the same as a GT, and I need to tap into the red, blue, brown and white wires...

Could anyone please help me and identify what colours are positive and which are negative and which are paired?
Picture of my harness attached, would appreciate any help

The attached crutchfield install guide has the wiring breakdown. I believe you have the same base 9 speaker system I have, which is what this guide is for. [note that I have not personally verified this guide to be correct, as I only swapped speakers in my GT]

Thanks so much for that, extremely helpful! Strange that for right under seats sub they would use blue as positive and red as negative haha... Found a video that had it the other way round - I'm from NZ so is crutchfeild usually pretty reliable?

Thank you again
