You gave me the visual of that old cartoon, "Drawn Together" when they black light the living room and they have an entire barnyard show up to show how disgusting it was. I just pictured someone blacklighting a Stinger and a similar ridiculous thing happens to how filthy it is. Thanks for the laugh!
I personally know 2 people that have worked at a rental car company and a car dealership. Some of those guys beat the snot outta cars. Heard some crazy stories over the years.
I remember the moment I realized I would NEVER buy a Stinger used. Use to see this guy who worked at 3M probably once or twice a week going to work. His car looked amazing, was literally the first micro blue car I saw in person. He would smoke the tires on that thing everytime I saw him at the multiple stop signs that run along 3M. One day I followed him into the ramp to ask him about his car. He said he loved it but it's a lease and he'd be onto something else. He said if he owned it long term, there's no way he'd drive it that hard everyday. When I was at the dealer getting ready to pull the trigger on my car I saw that they had a used gt2 in micro blue with white or the light grey interior. Reminded me of his car.
It's hard to determine honestly. Where as if most people see aftermarket, more so performance, are usually bought for one reason. To go faster. Which leaves the stigma of the whole "drive it like you stole it" mentality. Personally I do plan aftermarket upgrades, but I do not plan to sell or trade this thing in until it is no longer drivable. With that being said you have to trust the dealer and/or private seller. Which can be hard to do depending on certain factors.
I always say I got lucky with my find. One owner, retired man who likes trucks. Clear seal is still on the door sills.

That's how I'm going into it--resale value, shmeesale value; I'm running her into the ground. But, truth be told if you expect the miles put on a used car to be hard, you just gotta go in expecting that the usual stuff will wear out sooner rather than later--if you choose to go in, of course.
I plan to go basic bolt on (Intake, Tune, Exhaust), anything past that may require some engineering. But I'd need hard numbers like how many horsies can my two Hong Kong Hurricanes take before it goes pop? Can I use bigger injectors with increased diameter air piping to get stupid high torque?
But that also means I found a car I like enough to put that kind of money into.
I baby all my cars. Literally have never had a single car related problem ever. Knocks on wood. Also change oil & filter every 6 months. More importantly I believe in warming up car before driving, especially during the cooler periods.
However I do drive them spiritedly from time to time for some fun and enjoy some WOT on highway ramps.
