Sport Mode and Paddle Shifters

"True" manual mode IMO would be the car does not shift for you and would instead hold or bounce the rev limiter. My E46 M3 SMG behaves this way in every gear. The car will NOT upshift for you in any event. It will downshift as you slow or come to a stop and will not let an over rev occur via manual downshift but that is it.

The Lexus RCF also has a "true" manual in every gear except 1. 2 thorugh 8 will bounce the limited.

I just picked up my GT2 so have not a chance to test but in all the test drives i did, not once did i see a bounce of the rev but rather an auto upshift occured. I would argue there is no "true" manual on this transmission...unitl someone figures out how to code it out of the system anyway.

KIA is testing this proper manual mode that will not shift. Hurry up and provide it as a software update!!!!

But here we're just talking about when/whether the manual mode decides for itself to flop back to "D." Presumably, with the mechanical shifter it will not revert? Does it??? Is it affected by drive mode?

With DbW, it will go back to D after a few seconds of non-active driving unless you are in Sport mode, in which case it stays in manual.

If the mechanical shifter stays in manual mode regardless of drive mode, then it is superior. There should be a way to tell the car to shift manually and not revert to "D" regardless of which mode you are in. There are many times that I want some manual control where I do not need or want Sport mode. KIA should also update this pronto.

The typical way to revert to D after putting the car in manual mode is to pull and hold both paddles at the same time for a couple of seconds.

Agreed, i would be happy with a software update as well as a way to positively engage and disengage full manual control

Make it possible to drive this great car in a full manual mode. You can even keep some safety controls built, I’d rather that than driving along enjoying this car and it shift on you for no reason other than some ridiculous time elapsed coding, so I then shift again to get back into manual mode, just dumb programming.

So to be clear. While in Sport mode if I tap the paddle at a stop light to indicate 1 ( first gear) and I want to race the car next to me, can I just keep the pedal to the floor and trust it to shift near redline without me tapping the paddles?

Yes, you are correct. Now, that is not the fastest way to drive your Stinger, though. LOL

In auto, the ecu will shift sooner than redline to keep boost up. Your torque curve is what you want in the red light dash.

If you have the GT2 with electronic shifter (not the mechanical lever), the manual mode behaviour changes depending on what drive mode (Comfort, Sport, etc.) you are in.
