How bad really is the mpg on the Stinger GT

The Stinger basically has everything I want in a car. The gt2 has all the features I’m looking for, But the v6 seems to be crazy on gas. I currently drive a 2011 Sorento which is also v6 but I’m not sure it uses as much gas as the stinger. The gt-line although been fast enough and having good mpg doesn’t come with the luxury features the gt2 has. Do you guys think I’d get better mpg in the stinger v6 than my current Sorento? Or should I just stick to the 2022 gt-line

Yes, the v6 is hard on gas around town. Highway is pretty good. I've never been interested in checking my mileage.

Could be worse. I grin everytime I see a lifted truck fueling up beside me.

OP, look at fuelly.com to get some ideas. All a function of the right foot. How restrained of a driver are you? Usually most folk have difficulty going slow around town, esp with the exhaust opened up.

I chose the gtline for that reason. Plenty fast in most scenarios, reasonable on gas - low 20's to low 30's, city/hwy respectively.

They do offer a gtline with some of the upgrades... I can't recall the package name but it's new for 2023 MY cars. The only mod the gtline needs right away is better tires - maybe sway bars if you're surrounded by corners.

I get pretty much close to the official mpg ratings on my GT2 AWD.

I will often get less than mpg ratings though because I have a lead foot sometimes and my region has A LOT of hills which kills mileage.

I have about 11.5k miles on my car and my lifetime mpg average is around 20.3mpg. That at almost a 50/50 mix of highway and city mileage.

Just note you'll want to put premium fuel in the car. Not sure if your Sorento needs premium.

As JSolo says, lead foot = thinner wallet.

I've seen 27-28 on highway, upper teens around town for around 22-23MPG mixed. It's not bad for the performance, not great compared to an econobox. I don't drive it in sport mode, and only hard accelerate when prudent (ie - not racing from red light to red light).

In the city traffic im usually 15-17mpg. And that will go down if I’m driving more aggressive.

When I first got her I got about 30 pure freeway.

I just did a rural highway road trip through hills and twisties, and got about 25. I was a little heavy on the throttle though.

If your intention is to maximize gas mileage by using the mpg meter you can drive yourself crazy. just enjoy what the car does best which includes getting on the gas to pass and when you get the front row at a light with a decent speed limit and so forth. my highest mileage on a road trip which I saw maybe three times in over four years and a dozen road trips was 31 point something. typically a leg on a road trip will deliver 25 mpg either side of but expect 23 to 28 as a realistic range. mixed around town like others have said is either side of 20 mpg. I idle a lot in the winter time, refuse to be uncomfortable waiting for the wife to get out the store and so forth, and that shoots mileage in the foot, expect 14 to 16 mpg max if you do much of that. the 2.0l I have is better of course, even with all the idling which can be excessive I can attain 17 to 18 mpg easily, a little highway driving rapidly brings the average mpg up to 19 or 20.

I drive >30min at highway speed with cruise control set at 75-80, I routinely get 35mpg minimum with the GT1. If you're playing Boy-racer between the stop lights your gas mileage will suck. Simple as that.

Your Sorento's V6 is missing two turbos, 100 horsepower, and about 150 lbs-ft vs. the Stinger. But the nice thing about turbos is that you can choose when it acts like a big engine, and when it doesn't.

Stay out of the boost and you'll see the higher numbers quoted here (29 highway in my case). Around town it depends on how long your trips are, what your local road speeds are (50mph two-lanes vs. stop and go traffic), and whether you stomp on it.

I think the 2023 gtline is the exact same as the 2022's. Wish the gt-line had a package that offered the interior led, HUD, or even ventilated seats. The 2019 premiums had it.

I typically get 17-19 mpg driving around town and 24+ mpg for highway driving, with the highest I've ever gotten being 28.4 mpg. I recommend staying out of boost if your goal is to maximize your mpg.

My K5 Gt line would get something ridiculous like 43 highway on long trips in eco mode and on cruise. The Stinger, highest I've ever seen is around 26 highway. Mind you it was around 0 degrees with somewhat fresh snow and I may have topped out at 58 MPH. Now when the roads are clear, it's been a long day and a subi or vtec Boi wants the smoke? Maybe 13. I knew MPG was gonna be low, not trackhawk or hellcat low, but lower. But worth every penny.

Steady state cruising on the highway will largely keep you out of boost unless you're in Mexico at much higher speeds than normal US highway speeds.

Get a bluetooth OBD2 dongle or anything else that let's you monitor boost pressure. I've driven my entire commute route and not see boost pressure blip off 0.0 psi. So the car basically acts like a normally aspirated engine. Takes a good bit of planning to drive like that in traffic, because you'd be essentially hypermiling. You might piss off cars behind you, because your acceleration will be rather mild. Same thing while slowing down and letting the car coast and use as much of the momentum as possible, instead of the brakes.

You can get good mpg. Question is whether you have the discipline to do it, and whether it is worth it to you in order to have an engine that lets you rip when you do want to.

35k on 19 GT2 AWD see ~25mpg in mixed driving. I live near Santa Fe so have many 'hills'. And yes a leaded foot will kill the mileage, but as others have said, sometimes you just gotta pass some grandparent. Well worth the cost
