New Short Engine Block

After reading this thread looks more and more, i am keeping my engine stock. Too many threads with after tune problems. Since i dd my stinger a lot, i am just not interested in keeping an eye on the tune and gas quality and...etc. Maybe all those tunes are not mature enough or maybe this engine is too complicated. But i really don't remember people posting about soo many problems when i was on LNF engine forums(hhr ss). Thanks for sharing!

I'm getting a Lap3 stage 1 tune. Even though the tune is for 91 octane, higher octane fuels can be used and my car is close to FBO minus primary downpipes. I'll be running it on 93 octane gas as I always put 93 in the car. I think stage 1.5 just runs more aggressive timing than stage 1, every Lap3 tune targets 19-20psi of boost though. I'll log frequently and hopefully, stage 1 is the perfect tune for daily driving.

I'll update everyone on the forum on how everything goes with stage 1.

Yup every Lap3 runs 19 psi and when it is cold, it pushes to 21 psi. That’s why I still have my JB4 to watch/log the tune. I only have 91 + E30 and use map 6 to reduce boost. At least when I have 93 available and E30 I can run map0 and enjoy full 1.5 ecu tune.

Have you ran into any problems with using the JB4 as a passthrough for logging? I heard a good bit of drama on Facebook groups with the JB4 interfering with Lap3 tunes even on map0. I plan to continue using my ELM327 Bluetooth OBD2 Scanner/Reader to log everything.

Nope. None at all. You just need to turn on/off some bits on the JB4 then good to go.

You’ll enjoy the 1.0 tune for sure! Smoother than piggyback tunes.

Tuning wise you playing with fire piggyback or ecu . JB4 seems most practical and ppl dd it so I’ll give that a go

This is a very one off situation. OP did imo got a lemon in terms of tuneability is concerned.

Don't let tunes scare you, car is very capable of it.

Keep us updated about jb4. I'll stick to my weight reduction madness for now.:geek:

What have you done so far? Lighter wheels, brakes, exhaust?

Pretty much everything that i could think of, without going totaly hardcore, like removing carpet or interior trim pieces. Should be under 3600 right now. Will get documented numbers pretty soon, and claim my stinger as world's lightest v6 awd stinger

In regards to “tuning” I was just saying that whether it’s an ecu or piggyback tune you are taking a gamble pushing the car beyond its limits from the factory. Ppl Will still do it though and take as many precautions as we can (right plugs and gapped appropriately , right fuel, post logs and monitor, etc. ). Brand new engine coming so shouldn’t have anymore significant problems such as the engine (knock on wood). As with any car you take the pros with the cons.

Sounds awesome. All I have for weight savings are lighter wheels and my JUN.BL catback plus the secondary downpipes.

Update: Supposed to go pick my car yesterday from getting the short engine block replaced under warranty. Everything was running fine on the car but the tech stated the hks plugs was causing herky jerkiness and was not smooth when you got into boost. He recommend swapping back to stock plugs which they would cover and also stated the hks plugs are for tuned vehicles and doesn’t work well with stock vehicles. My questions are the hks plugs on the stingers considered something you need to look at more closely like checking them at every oil change , is the is a common problem among other stinger owners (herky jerky/ not smooth acceleration misfires perhaps) and finally I thought the hks plugs help the vehicle even in stock form. Any help is very much appreciated. *side note currently sitting on 2 sets of hks plgus

As far as I know the HKS plugs are a two step colder plug, I could see that casing issues on a non tuned motor.

Yeah I posted this on the fb groups and that was the consensus. No point in running the hks on a stock vehicle since I’m not tuned. I had the hks in there from the lap 3 tune I had. They are going to put stock plugs back which will solve things.

Update : Finally got the car back. Driving home cruising and cel pops up. Call dealership and I drive back. They inspect the codes and it was a slight misfire he stated. The tech is not sure of the cause. Driving back home again and the cel pops up . Once home cut the car off and five minutes later turn it on and the cel is gone. Tech told me to monitor it and they will handle anything that needs to be done whether coil pack, plugs, or injectors but they did not find anything. Definitely will keep a close eye out on this. Praying for some good luck finally with the vehicle. Intakes and custom exhaust is all I have mod wise and will continue to have . Don’t want to add the jb4 until I know the car is running good and healthy . I believed I asked this question before but is there something wrong with plugs/cylinders on stingers as a whole ?
