Suspension Performance and How to Improve it!

If you want to go further then chassis braces are a good option. My roof creaks now when coming down from my driveway because all the bottom chassis flex is restricted lol.
Oh ya, I've been looking at those, I think it was shark racing or something?

Taking a shot…

Is there anyone in the Charlotte / central North Carolina area with the stock 225/40R19 & 255/35R19 Michelin Primacy Tour A/S tires willing to swap wheels with my Michelin Pilot Sport 4S for a few days?

I’m chasing a handling issue with my 2022 GT2 AWD that Kia won’t investigate if I’m not running the stock tires during the test drive.

Thanks!

That sounds like one of the worst excuses of all time. Are the Pilot Sport 4s' not one of the factory options? Even then, would they refuse to look at any handling issue under warranty after you ran the stock tires out? Absolutely ridiculous. Don't play their games.

I get a bit of body creak since I put in the Eibach sway bars. It's pretty normal. When you tighten things up, the roof flexes on bumps

Yeah, it’s frustrating.

I’m now dealing with Kia corporate customer support and the regional field tech, who has duplicated the issue but is at a loss to explain the cause. He’s trying to eliminate variables, though the tire swap is a big stretch.

The dealership was kind enough to let us test drive an identical car with the original tires, which did not exhibit the issue, but mine did with the original tires - which were unbalancible so replaced at 1000 miles with the MP4S. Issue remains.

The dealership is not willing to swap wheels/tires off one of their cars and I’m trying to avoid purchasing a set just for this test.

The MP4S were options on the Scorpions, but “those have a different ECU setup”.

Grrr

Aside from a wheel balancing or damage issue, I can't see how the tires themselves could be affecting the handling to any significant extent. The fact that they even decided to mention the "different ECU setup" of the Scorpion versus shows that they are seemingly incompetent or at least totally unknowledgeable in regards to the actual vehicle, as there is zero difference in ECU between the GT2 and the Scorpion. The Scorpion is basically a cosmetic package and nothing else. Perhaps I'm being a bit harsh, but they simply shouldn't be making baseless statements about the vehicles they are supposed to be working on.

Is there a different dealership you can take the car to?

It’s Kia corporate, not the dealership, that made the demand. And, yes, the tire situation is not the issue. But if I can comply to eliminate this excuse it would remove a reason for them to delay moving to the next step.

Thus my request to borrow a set.

Has anyone replaced the bushings of the front axle lower control arms? I saw that there is just one bushing on each side on the curved rear control arm while the forward one is connected with ball joints. I was only looking at pictures so I might be wrong.
I am wondering if the bushing can be replaced individually or only together with the whole control arm.

I've done 129k km (80k miles) with my car and I very frequently feel harshness, vibration and small wobbling of the steering wheel when I drive on rougher highways. Only at higher speeds (75+ mph). There is also some vibration with braking at the same speeds. The car was always a little harsh, since new, but I think lately it's just too much.

Symptoms come and go. I also have new brakes (OEM) and tried the car with 2 sets of wheels and tires. The behaviour is the same. So I want to try to change the 2 bushings now and see if that improves the ride.

I've been looking at the adjustable end links, how do you determine where exactly to set them? If the car is on Jack's do you compress the suspension when your dialing em in?
Just installed white line rear sway on soft setting and end links this morning. I had car off the ground and set end links to stock length with (removable) thread locker on all nuts. No creaks for first 50 miles. Hope it stays that way.

If it matters, I've had whiteline sways on three Subarus and a 240sx before now and have always installed this way. No issues.

I just had my mechanic regrease the front bushings during an oil change, the creaking was pretty bad- good now, but if it returns, I'm gonna install zerk fittings into the 2 brackets like the Eibachs have. The Whiteline sway set was almost half the Eibachs, so ill still be ahead relative to cost IMO

Here is an oldschool trick for anyone installing an aftermarket sway bar when you want it to remain quiet. When installing the bar, wrap the area of the bar that will contact the bushing with a few wraps of teflon tape. Then lubricate over the tape like you would the bar, the tape makes a HUGE difference in keeping squeaks away.

And use the thicker yellow Teflon tape for gas lines instead of the thinner white water pipe tape.

It's funny, BC I asked my mechanic to do teflon....I think he ignored me and just did dielectric grease. It's working for now, well see if it develops again.

The issue is, if not wrapped correctly, you can end up with teflon threads in the fuel system which can get clogged in the injectors affecting their performance.

Once I learned that, I've never used teflon tape again on any fuel fittings. And remarkably, I've never had a fuel leak since.

This the classic case of 'Less Is More'.

It is very important that after reassembling fuel lines, with the engine off, run the fuel pump to check for leaks. If there is a leak, snug the connection more and recheck.

Wait, what???? They're talking about wrapping the sway bars with teflon tape where the bushings go. How in the world does that get in the fuel system?

Edit: I mean, I get it that yes, using too much teflon tape and wrapping wrong would be bad when doing threads in the fuel system, but this entire thread is about suspension.

I have a pan wrapped in teflon. Works fine and doesn't squeak. And you are right. Less is more. You dont want a lot of oil there.skillet-frying-pan-on-white-background-131919734-57e41d555f9b586c35918f3f.jpg
