Runs rough on cold start up

Define rough? Like rod knock rough or just louder than usual? If the latter that's normal. Within 30-60 sec the idle should drop and smooth out.

yeah mine does too 20 30 seconds then it's smooths out

Like sputtering with bag fuel. Then after 30-45:seconds it runs smoothly.

Hmm... I know it runs differently on a first cold start, but it doesn't seem that bad enough to warrant my attention. I will listen more closely next time I drive the car (have the same engine).

My G37 sounded much louder and worse on a cold start. But that too was normal.

Most modern engines run super rich at cold to try to warm up the o2 sensors as quickly as possible.

My engine skips a bit for the first few seconds, then after c. half a minute the RPMs drop and everything is smooth. It's normal behavior, and varies with each vehicle.

I have an appointment today at dealership for this. Everyone in this thread says it's normal...why is this normal? I've owned many vehicles and never had one sounded like this. Just wondering why it's "normal"

Just had mine checked out at KIA and they called after having it for the night and day as it only does it on the first startup of the day generally and they said it would have to get worse before they could do anymore testing as they found no codes and nothing wrong lol - so I went to pick it up and was asking about the last service as I wanted a copy of the work they had done (engine trans removal to replace trans seal) and asked the only advisor that seems to know anything about the noise and he said that it was normal and reason is for the noise was warm air injectors warming up the cats and the colder the weather the longer the noise will last. He said these direct injection engines start up rather rich and that is why they need these warm air injectors to activate the cats (cats only really work when they are hot/warm) So this made sense to me. Has anyone else heard of this as the reason or were they just blowing warm air up my ass?
