The roads where I live are less than ideal. I have gone through multiple sets of tires in less than 2 years of ownership because the potholes by me eat through my tires. I figured I could swap my 19" rims with 18" to give them slightly more meat on the sides. Has anyone done this or does anyone has suggestions? The attached photo is the latest mishap. This tire was only about a month old.

All stingers that where equipped with the "Cold weather package" from the factory came with 18 inch rims, Including my car. 18s will be fine.

Dozens if not 100's have gone 18's, no issues. If I could make a recommendation also. If you have offset rims, go square. This way you can rotate tires, and you don't have to worry about tracking two different size tires when they get worn or damaged.

18" wheels, I presume, since you are showing this example here. Did you have to use spacers in front? What offset? If I went square, that is exactly what I would try for, 255 on 18" wheels.

I've seen people fit 245/40/19 & 275/35/19 to the factory wheels and they fit quite well ! Much better for crappy roads.

I run 18s on my car in the winter for that very reason. More meat, more sidewall. Winter kills roads in MN, all that snow, ice, thawing, refreezing below zero temps.

Wheels are 18" squared from a Genesis g70 in gunmetal grey. I have a awd base gt but they'll work just fine on your gt2.

I think the word is that most 18" wheels fit. I had a set, JNC 026 18 x 8 et 35, where the valve Stem bump hits outside of caliper. There valve stem is strangely located in the center of the rim, so I would avoid this configuration. I now use XXR 860 18 x 8.5 and the work fine.

I also created this thread a while ago:

No spacers, 34 offset I believe if I'm remembering correctly.

Thanks. 34 offset is the OEM offset for the 8" front wheels. So, running 8.5" wide at 34 offset with a 255 tire has to be CLOSE. From what I've read, I'd expect that setup to rub somewhere.

I’ve inspected while changing wheels for winter and found no rub, I used mirrors during initial and turning wheels lock to lock to see, but no rub. It is tight near the strut, but there’s at least 5mm of clearance. I’ll verify the offset.

35mm, not 34.

A whole millimeter closer yet. :D 5mm should be enough clearance, unless you push hard enough into a curve to flex the sidewall that far. :cautious:

I still haven't raced it yet, the other car is too much fun and I haven't had a wet day on a race-day yet. I do tend to push my cars pretty hard, so checking that strut for any contact marks and the wheel well were pretty important for monitoring, possibly putting spacers in, but like I said, no contact marks. I think I took a picture and put it here somewhere.
