I purchased a 2020 Kia stinger and the previous owner scuffed up the dashboard above the glove box. It’s right on the medal piece that glows the ambient color at night. Any suggestions on how to repair it in away not to block the ambient light coming through?

Thanks

That piece is not metal; it is plastic. You might try some mild to medium rubbing compound to remove the scratches. Even very fine sandpaper may help. Are the scuffs deep-- can you feel them?

I'm confident you could buy a replacement piece of trim. (probably expensive)

Welcome. Moving this discussion into our Stinger interior forum.

Unfortunately yes I can feel the scratches. I’m waiting to see what the dealership can do, if they don’t have any answers or it’s too expensive to replace I’ll try your suggestion.
thanks

Howdy and welcome. You haven't got anything to lose, since I doubt that using a very fine wet/dry grit (wet, of course, but I'd go easy on the water) will make it look worse (can't tell without a pic if it's that bad or you are just a purist :P). I would line the dash with masking tape on either side of the ambient strip and polish it down with the wet/dry sandpaper. If that fails to satisfy, you have to replace the entire section of dash (from what I've read before about marred ambient lighting strips), you can't just pull the strip out and slap a new one in.

can you post a picture of damage?

Yikes! Whatever did that also scratched your dash above the glovebox, going by the pic. You don't have anything to lose trying to knock the ambient light trim back. Like I suggested already, if it were my challenge, I'd lay masking tape along both sides of the strip and use wet/dry sandpaper. If it takes the surface off and looks like crap, well, it already looks like crap, and you would be replacing it anyway. If you have decided to live with it as-is, ignore what I said.

Your never going to get that metallic look back by sanding it. The faux metal coating will just wear down to the tan plastic underneath (just like the scratches did). Looks like it may be part of the center dash section, with the Center vents. Check your local scrap yards for a wrecked Stinger perhaps

I'm selling my dash. It's in mint condition and open to offers.

That just sounds weird, like you are doing "part out" starting with the dash. Why are you selling your dash??

Oh, never mind: I just looked at your signature. So, you've had this OEM dash sitting around your place for how long? :P

LOL just a few months. Swapped it for the Alcantara one this past winter.

Here you go. I replaced mine following a tutorial on youtube. Sadly it's not available anymore but I downloaded it. If you want to do it yourself PM me and I'll find a way to send you the video.
Best of luck!

I know your pain! A friend scratched mine one week after receiving my new car and I waited 2 years until Kia finally decided to sell that part individually :)

My daughter scratched my trim this week after only three weeks of ownership. I was hoping to replace all of the silver trim with a silver carbon fiber but cannot find it without the rest of the dash being covered as well, and I dont want stick on carbon fiber. Khartunez has a decent picture of what I am looking for, less the dash cover. Anyone have an idea where I can pickup silver carbon peices? 1656956990155.webp

You could take out the silver piece and have it hydro coated. I think you can get it looking just like the one in the picture. Might lose the ambient light though.
