• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Australia-Specific Kia Stinger Discussion

After a short drive and the brakes warmed up, when braking just normal to soft I feel a distinct wobbling vibration through the steering wheel and faint sound of it. Only done just over 8000klms & 11months old. Never raced or sudden harsh braking . became faintly apparent about a month ago & getting worse.

It’s a well known issue, it’s the pads, put it simply they are crap, pad material builds up on the rotors.
Do a couple of high speed braking manoeuvres & it should clear it, oh & do it safely.
In the end most have replaced the pads with aftermarket ones & this resolves the issue.
Under 10,000 and 1 year, going back to my dealer for the above & screen occasionally does not come on when starting up for which I have a few photos as evidence. Both under warranty issues.
I know they are gonna say we could not repeat the brakes causing steering wheel wobble so any advice what to say??

Don’t know what advice I can offer to you to say other than others have had pads replaced & rotors machined or replaced under warrant.
I had the cavitation feel under foot for a while & I didn’t bother getting into this with them as to me they are a consumable & wear item & as soon as dba released rotors to suit I got them, they also do ads for the Stinger too so a got them as well, very happy now.

Interesting if true:

That's hopefully good news. I'm sure NSW Police would have demanded assurances from KIA that they do not plan to discontinue the Stinger anytime soon before they went through the hassle of evaluating the vehicle and figuring out how to fit their bespoke communication and computer equipment in the car.

I have heard there is an update to the audio unit / nav.
Does anyone know what this contains & is it better?

The updater app has changed to a new version but the software and maps are still the May (I think) 2021 version..
I haven't installed it but the MAP version number can be found on the SD card or download location on your PC in the file called SDMODULE.bin.

Download path on PC: <Your Path>\NaU\2018_21_Stinger_AU\DATA\NATION\AUS\MAP
Location on SD card: <SD Card>\Data\Nation\AUS\Map

Current map version: AUS.14.41.44.490.001.3

If you have the 10.5 inch wide screen this may be different..

For those Aussies who have the facelift Stinger - when you remote start the car using the key, does the engine shut off when you open the driver's door? Or does the engine keep running?

And can you then stop the car using the key too?

Thanks in advance.

Hi KAS

The vehicle has to be locked for the remote start to operate. With the vehicle locked you press the key fob button to start the car, then press the key fob to unlock the car, open the door & get in. Engine stays running.

You can turn the engine off with the key fob also, but that appears to be only if you haven't actually driven anywhere.

Once you get in the car and shut the door, it seems the fob is no longer active. None of the key fob buttons do anything once you're in the car with the engine running - no door locking, no rear hatch opening, no engine off.

So to that end, its not like you can pull up in the garage at the end of a day's work, get out of the car and shut the engine off with the remote. Looks like you have to press the button on the dash to do that.

Thanks MrE. On occasions where I forget to close the windows before getting out of the car, I was wondering if the remote start feature would allow me to start the car, raise the windows and shut down the car without my having to get into the driver's seat and reach around to hit the start/stop button - and it will, which is very handy.

Sounds like you're in luck mate! Are you in line for a refresh?

I'm surprised the key fob does not have the windows down/up function like a lot of cars do, but not complaining.

This car's got a hell of a lot of features that are just amazing, that I've never seen before - the heated & cooled seats, the live camera feed in the centre of the cluster when you activate the indicators, DAB radio, HUD, all the functionality & data available on screen like tyre pressure, gauges etc. Even a reverse camera is new for me, and this thing gives you a birds-eye view & front-end view as well.

It's mighty impressive.

Yup, I've placed an order for a new one to replace my MY19. It will probably be an MY23 by the time it gets here.

The Stinger is the last six-cylinder performance sedan available in Australia under $100k - it's last call and I want a fresh one to keep for a while.

Good on you, that's great news. Hopefully it doesn't take forever, but having your current one in the meantime will make the wait less frustrating.

So, funny story, I just found myself in your scenario of the car in the garage with the window down and wanting to put it up.

I thought 'I've got this' - locked the car with the key fob - started the car with the key fob - unlocked the car with key fob & opened the door - pressed the window switch - nuthin! Lol!

It seems when starting the car with the remote the only interior accessory that has power is the air-con, which comes on automatically.

Other items don't function - the infotainment screen, window & mirror switches, indicators, wipers etc all have no power. The window & mirror switches and the instrument cluster are illuminated, but they don't function.

Once you get in and shut the door the proximity sensor for the key fob recognises you're in the vehicle and power goes to everything, (radio etc comes on) just like when starting the car normally by pressing the start button on the dash.

Man, this car is full of first-world problems!

Okay, how about this:

1. Start car with key
2. Open driver's door, put key on driver's seat, close driver's door
3. Car senses the key is inside, all electronics should be working now, so open driver's door again and close windows
4. Stop car with key

On my US spec 22, I've noticed that as long as the key is in the car, that everything would work, even with the door open.

I think there are differences between US and Aus market Stingers. For example, the US market key has the remote start button on the flat side of the key, whereas Aus market key has the button on the chrome edge of the key.

Almost, apart from Step 4.

Once the car senses the key is inside all electronics do operate, however the key itself no longer functions and you can't shut off the engine using the key fob.

As an IT engineer, I wish I could reprogram my car to do exactly what I want!

Just in case Aussie forum members don't see the thread in the 'Stinger Talk' sub-forum:

Hopefully the MY23 will come to Australia as well.
