Center console switch out to Korean version with cup holder cover

So got mine in took about a week to get in. Didn't think about it at the time but my GT has the T shifter and boot. So not as easy to switch out. Looks like it will be more involved than yours, uggg!

Shouldn’t you be able to pop the clips and once it’s free rotate the whole thing 90 degrees to get it over the shifter?

Something like that but its hard to see anything since I can only lift it so far. Looks like I may have to take out the whole trimmed in area of that part since the boot is attached to it, on the sides. Ive been trying to find a way to lift the shifter and boot off so its easier to work with. I may go to dealership and get some help on it if I cant figure it out. Fortunately I have a great relationship with my dealership and he is always willing to help. Here is the trimmed piece off the new one. I may have to unscrew the one in the car and I can lift the whole piece out. Once I go to screw new stuff all back in on new one I will have limited space to work with. Doing stuff with MRS today so will have to look at it tomorrow prolly. I will try to keep yall updated as I go along..

So not as easy for those of us with T shifter & boot. I could never find a way to get the T and Boot to lift up as this will help ALOT. Nonetheless I had to leave the shift side in and unscrew it with the whole trim piece after pulling the trim piece out on the Korean one as I pictured above.

The new piece you must install to the trim and shifter piece then at the end install the cup holders as last thing as for some reason I could never get it to fit if cup holders were already on there.

A lot of laying on side and back trying to get to screws to work underneath while holding it up.

HIGHLY recommend placing a long towel over the opening to catch any dropped screws as I found my magnetic phillips wasn't strong enough. Dropped 4 and recovered 3. Panic attack ensued once everything was back together I couldn't shift it. Come to find it one of the lil bastards decided to jump into the shifter. After checking everything felt in there and felt the little turd. Thought I was going to have to tow it as I could not get into gear or it would stick in a gear or tear the whole shifting area apart. After about 30 stressful minutes I was able to final get it to move and settle elsewhere hoping doesn't reoccur.

Excellent info. You should do a separete thread with a write up for those that want to the conversion on the non-shift by wire versions.

I'm almost positive there is a set screw somewhere on that T shifter but to be honest i would do it the way you did myself. I would be worried about some linkage maybe and a locking mechanism on the T shifter itself that could come loose when taking it out. Good pics though. They will definitely help others out for sure.

No set screw, just pull up and the T shifter will pull right out.

Like @StingerGTandMe, I would have expected there to be a set screw or latch of some kind to hold the handle in place. That said, I've felt around through the boot though and can't detect anything.

Would love to see a video or photo of the handle being removed and showing what the top of the shifter post looks like.

I took the whole center console out this weekend to mess with running a USB cable from the front storage area to the armrest. I regret I didn’t take pictures but I can tell you where all the bolts are and I can confirm all you need to do to get the T shifter off is give a tug straight up. The top of the shift stick has a u shaped white plastic top that snaps into the T shifter base.

Sorry just to pop in the thread but I’m a new GT1 owner and a new member here and thought this info could help those who want to take their center consoles out.

Cheers!

No I have the 15 speaker one and love it. Sounds amazing to me.

I bet it sounds awesome. I only have the base model and I'm gonna have to upgrade the sound system. But I need to figure out where the hub and wires are located to tap into. And what color wires go to what speaker. I did get access to the KGIS website, so that ought to help. Your videos were as informative as they were entertaining. If you find yourself making a video of how to remove door panels, the dash and trunk etc... I'm sure people would find that helpful for dozens of reasons. There's no videos on this model at all except yours. Keep up the good work dude.

I have some parts coming that will involve partial trunk removal so that for sure. I don't think I'll ever touch the dash if I don't have to. I feel like if I do that I'll have a rattle or squeek from that point on that will drive me mad lol. I appreciate the feedback also. Thank you

Lol, yes, the dreaded dropped screw or clip into the dash making a rattle... I know the feeling. I look forward to next video bud. Thanks again

Here is a pic of my swap of the center console on my GT1. Also installed was the wireless charging pad. This was more of a challenge. Anyway, for the center console swap, i just followed the video and made sure the trim from the previous console was switched over to the new console to fit the Tbar shifter. Was pretty easy. Note: i wrote a tiny post on the Wireless Charger Swap DIY thread for Tbar shifters.

Looks good well done!

  • Looks good!!! Did the same in my GT2. My wireless mount is a bit different. Wanted my phone to be functional while charging. Love the new cup holder!20180414_203741.webp

Man your videos getting tons of views. I remember seeing couple hundred when you started! Keep up the good work!

Thank you @StingerGTandMe ! I got my cup holder in this am along with drilling to get the iPhone cord in the rear center console. Took me a while tho. I’ve had the car for a week, came out this morning and had a dead battery. Had to manual open the door. Took several tries to jump it off my ram 1500.
Then, taking off the original center console, a piece broke off and also got stuck in my shifter. Didn’t realize it until everything was back together and I couldn’t shift into reverse.
Finally, after shifting into park, then moving shifter forward I could go into reverse. I did it several more times and must’ve shaken it loose. Everything is working fine now, though.
