Hi guys, I know this issue has been discussed before where Stinger owners here have bumped into neutral whilst driving when resting hand on the shifter on shift by wire transmission. This has happened to me a couple of times. I was lucky to be able to safely come to a complete stop before shifting it back to D.

I am very concious now when driving and not resting my hand on the shifter, but occasionally I still find myself doing it out of habit.

What I want to know is if anyone here has shifted back from N to D while the car is still moving? I can imagine driving on the freeway with cars behind me and if this happened to me then, I will not be able to safely come to a complete stop to shift it back to D.

Is it OK to shift from N to D whilst the car is still moving? I know it doesn't seem logical to do so, but I may be forced to do it to avoid an accident if this happened to me on the freeway.

I wouldn't think there would be any problem, it's all fly by wire so the Stinger won't let you break it.

Done it a few times without issue.

The very question puzzles me: no design would make shifting from any forward moving gear to "N" and back into gear inimical to the transmission.

This is why im asking the question, this is on the owners manual in the shift by wire section

I think the spirit of the owner's manual is to avoid stupid. There's no reason you can't switch from D --> N --> D with the car in motion (as long as you're not WOT). Remember that owner's manuals are for all types of potential buyers.

I do it literally every day.

It won’t hurt anything.

I shift to Neutral every time.
I stomp on it and finish the race let go the gas and switch to N. I don't let the car slow down with the transmission engaged; I slow it down with the brakes and then when I'm on 25 to 35 MPH that's when I engage the D again and continue driving.

What's the idea behind this? Is it bad to let the transmission help brake?

Plain ignorance.

The idea is that I'm not forcing the engine slowing down forced by the transmission coming from high RPM.
I want my engine to be idle after reaching high RPM's for long period of time.
