Question…. Anyone out there in
2020 Kia Stinger GT world experience slow acceleration w/ no get up and go???
i experienced this about 4 weeks ago, check engine light came on… drove to my local Kia dealership. They told me is was a history code issue (???). Made an appointment to get checked out, only to have the check engine light off and no history (since the mechanic cleared the codes)… Now I feel the acceleration is off just a little bit…. Any suggestions!

What does the boost look like? put it in sport mode fine an empty road and floor it. watch the boost and it peak around 18-20. if it don't you have a boost leak.

Thank you for the info. Please explain where I find the boost reading…. Sorry… I’m a Nurse not a mechanic. I was a race car driver in a previous life

The waste gates may be stuck open... The gt trim doesn't get boost gauge unfortunately.. you can see the boost if you have a Bluetooth obd2 reader with your phone though .

should be in the gauge display in between the speed and rpm. use the steering wheel controls to cycle through until you find performance gauges.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

It sounds like she probably has the gt trim which doesn't have the 7 inch gauge cluster screen of the gt1 and 2 so won't have the sport gauges with boost readings ..

I don’t have the gauge display … I cycled through all the screens on my display. But thanks so much for the information.
Should the Kia mechanics know/think if these types of issues? Or do they need the check engine code to diagnose?

What is the “waste gate”?

What is the “waste gate”?
It is a valve that opens and dumps excess pressure to prevent engine harm . Pretty much most turbo engines have them , sometimes they can get stuck open causing a no boost situation , or another possible issue is am actual leak somewhere where something isn't tightened down ... It would be helpful if they told you what the actual code was .

Loss of accel/power with a turbo car is almost always related to the turbo. They can do smoke (vapor) tests where they can visually see leaks in the tubing. The most common issue is loose clamps in the tubing, then vacuum line clamps, then the boost control/wastegate solenoid.
You also have the intercooler coolant system, is it full?

Thanks everyone for all the useful information! I agree it would have been helpful if the mechanic told me the code.
As of this morning, I was able to accelerate in sport mode normally. Can the waste gates get periodically get stuck or leaks come and go?

yes, i've actually had one instance where after i let off the gas after accelerating hard, they stuck open and i had to restart the vehicle and it was all good... never had the issue again for over 10k miles now.

when i overboost the car goes into limp mode but without a check engine light. However a simple restart normally fixes it. That could be the reason but I think it's pretty hard to overboost when stock.

Turbo cars sometimes go into limp mode when heat soaked, hot environment plus lots of heavy accelerating. Can take a while to cool down. My modded wrx would do this in Phoenix in the summer despite my bigger intercoooler. A stuck wastegate would be pointing to a bad wastegate solenoid IMO.

Warning: this is sort of an info dump.

Slight correction, what you described is a BOV or Bypass Valve which resides on the intake piping after the turbos. These exist solely to stop compressor surge or fluttering when you let off of the throttle. These are actually optional (although can prolong turbo life) and most of the time are just upgraded for the cool psssh noises.

A Waste Gate is a valve on the exhaust side before or inside of the Turbine housings. This opens to let exhaust gasses bypass the turbine regulating how fast it can spin, in turn controlling the turbo's boost level. These are a requirement for a turbo system unless you like to see what the inside of your engine looks like. These are upgraded when the stock wastegates can't properly keep boost pressure in check and a larger valve is needed to keep the turbo from overboosting.

If the wastegate is leaking or stuck open you'll have a loss in pressure and lower power. If it gets stuck closed you'll over boost.

My car does the same thing only when the jb4 is conected car wont go over 50mph even to the floor. Diconnect jb4 I turn the car off turn back on fine and no lights on dash. It only stared this when i did firmware update on jb4 been emailing BM so now i got 700 dollar part that does nothing jb4 worked fine with no issue before update.

Oop my bad . You are right. Got my terminology mixed up.

Just read the first post and the tech should have told you the codes and what they are caused by before clearing them. This is a bit egregious in my opinion

Does the JB4 do this in map0 (stock) also? If so, triple check the connections, sounds like the ECU is not getting the right values from the sensors that the JB4 piggy backs on.

Im on map 2 check conections all are good i do have fuel wires ewg wires 93 octane befor firmware update the car never did this jb4 worked great i have intakes and catless down pipes new sparks at 0.22 and mbrp exhaust maybe my stock bov are getting stuck my car only has 10 k miles on it
