Jacking this bloody Car up

I'll shape some 2 x 10's, and carriage bolt them together, before I'd pay that kind of $$ for a ramp. They would be heavy, but how often do you use them? A little exercise won't kill ya!
I have built exactly as above. No problem and far cheaper.

Heh, one of the first things I do with a car is find the balance point where I can get the front and rear to both lift when jacking from one point.
Exactly what I do. But I switch tires not oil changes I have ramps for that bull shit

I probably should look into ramps but I only need like a foot of clearance to fit under the car. And I know a guy with a lift. So probably not a real need for ramps

I just said to myself WTF $745.
But then I watched the Utube video, not a bad product but way overpriced.
...
For my approx.4000-mile 4- Cylinder 2.0L Synthetic Oil Changes...I simply carefully drive-on.. and drive-off ...always remembering to set the brake and set the chocks behind the rear wheels first, all done quickly, cleanly and easily with my handy $50 Rhino Ramps...used them successfully for years on my old 2.4 L Optima, and just bought a new set for this 2.0 L Turbo Stinger, which still uses the same tough OEM Blue H/K Quality Spin-on, Spin-Off Factory Oil Filters...I buy them online by the box of 10 with free shipping... for only around $50 US dollars..and will save some of my used oil for refilling the lawnmower...

Go to safejacks dot com $139.00us each and you can choose the jack pad to suit the car/cars you have, I have two and they are very effective
I prefer harbor freight.

it’s like playing a game of chicken.

who will win this oil change? You, the car?

so exciting.

if you aren’t willing to die, you aren’t working on your car properly.

i don't even use jack stands sometimes, the rush helps me focus.

I used my low profile Jack with a fairly flat surface covered in rubber (see image), and jacked the car up on the pinch weld between the Jack points and the wheels. Slid the jacks under the jack points and it worked perfectly. Didn’t use a pinch weld adaptor, nothing bent or anything.

Has anyone tried one of these floor jack beam devices?

www harborfreight com/steel-floor-jack-cross-beam-64051.html

Some videos on youtube show this being used across the front/rear lower control arms to raise the vehicle. It's a shame kia/hyundai gave no thought in diy maintenance when designing this car.

^^How you going to rotate tires (or remove wheels) with a drive on ramp?

Recently upgraded my setup by replacing with:

Pricier than my cheap as can be old setup
but real easy with our car
just enough clearance where the top of jack and jackstand fit underneath, then once the jack is up, pin in the stand legs and done
Jack comes standard with a pinch weld adapter works great

Holy Jesus those stands look sketchy.

I’d *almost* rather use harbor freight jack stands. Lol.

glad they work for you.

Your life insurance policy up to date?

Big upgrade from harbor freight and traditional jack designs
Beefy and Strong
Nothing sketchy about them.

That looks pretty impressive. I wish the feet were wider - seems it might be a bit unstable with side load. Looks about the same foot area as a 2 ton stand?

It's Funny Because It's True.

You don't.

Super stable
long flat contact point w ground so doesn't damage concrete like most other jacks
Way wider than 3 ton jacks I used in past
It's much beefier/bigger than it looks in the pics
Came across this Jack on Chrisfix 2020 mechanic gift ideas video and after doing a lot of research and using, it's totally legit
Highly recommend eliminates need to care about positioning jack far enough away from Jack points to get stand in
It's just a bit pricey

^^So with the jackstands above, are you jacking each side to full height individually, or working your way side to side incrementally to get up to the desired height?

You can do either
But I usually do incrementally in 3 steps
First side to minimum height
Then next side all the way
Then back to original side all the way max
More because I feel like it stresses the body to have 1 side jacked very high when the other is still on the ground
Found when trying to go all the way up to max on the 1st side the back wheel lifts as well
Could be all in my head but this just how i do it

^^I've seen videos where jacking one corner would raise the front/rear. Agreed it's less stress on the chassis to do it incrementally. Kind of a pain if you only have a single jack but still better in the long run for chassis integrity IMO.

Wonder if these safejacks.com are any better or worse...
