Ceramic coating/wax

If its not an actual ceramic like a cquartz or Kenzo it's not actually bonded hard onto the paint
This isn’t right. Depends on the chemical makeup of the coating. There have been so many advancements in the last couple years that coatings apply and remove so much easier and still provide 9h harness and excellent durability.

Any spray coating has a 1 year life. 9h hardness is marketing. Like I said a Kenzo or cquartz has a much higher life, but also takes time to cure. You can apply a spray coating and take the car in the rain.
You get what you pay for... a spray coating is $20, a true serum should be $100.

He's not talking about a spray coating. Avalonking Armor Shield 9 is a 3 to 5 year coating and has a great track record. You do get what you pay for and this is a very good choice. Great value for the $$.

There are all kinds of reviews out there on this product, here's one of them:

The fact you can take off avalon in 60 seconds says enough lol. Again, I'm talking about professional products like a Kenzo that requires a 10 minute wait time and the coating becomes a resin. The products aren't in the same league.

I'm confused. I don't think anyone here has been talking about paying someone to apply a professional coating like that. You mentioned Cquartz and they offer consumer grade coatings as well that have a minute or two flash time. This is what most DIY installers are looking for, something easy to apply and remove.

From my first message on the topic of buffing off coatings I said Kenzo or cquartz lol. If they are consumer level they are not permanent and wipe right off.

I looked back at your post and I think I misinterpreted what you meant and that we're both saying the same thing. You are saying that non-professional coatings wipe off easy. I agree, they have short flash-times. It was confusing because you reference Cquartz who also offers consumer grade coating(s).

Not always. Every coating is different. That coating is one of the easiest to use and is known for effortless removal.

Good choice, you’re going to love it!
Yeah the water beads are impressive spheres and the wind alone is enough to dry all the water away.

It's just that I read everywhere to buff the residue quick otherwise the coating would cure and cause high spots that would need to be polished off.

Thanx, just ordered mine and will try it

That’s with all coatings. As long as you level it when it flashes and then buff it clear you’ll be fine making sure not to miss any. These newer coatings are much more forgiving.

I was looking at getting a five year ceramic coating on my car, but what happens as it ages? Does it get hazy, or discolored, or does it just slowly go back to the original paint?

It will just stop working. The chemical resistance will disappear as will its hydrophobic qualities. No hazing or anything like that.

All coatings also need to be maintained adequately to get 5 years of protection. At least every 3 months you should be topping off the coating with an SiO2 sealant to rejuvenate it otherwise you won't get the maximum durability as claimed.

I recently tried McGuires Hybrid Ceramic Wax on our Seltos, have to admit it’s pretty impressive. Stupid easy to apply also.
I use this as well, really stupid easy to use, only takes me about an hour for cheap. I spent about $25 cad on a bottle. Sure it doesn't last as long as a ceramic coating but if you don't want to spend the extra money it's not a bad choice.

Yes but every literature I came across made it seem as though if the coating isn't wiped and buffed within 30 seconds it'll become a permanent stain.

This was not the case, not even close as it buffed off effortlessly even after 2 minutes.

Granted I was working with black paint which makes it easier not to miss a spot as you can see where the coating is applied compared to light colour surfaces.

Yeah this used to be the reality with ceramic coatings. The newer ones have longer working times. Think of car waxes. Remember the old ones that you had to buff like a madman to remove? Newer waxes are effortless. Same evolution here.

The Adam's Graphene ceramic coating I applied was the same. It was super easy to remove, even after 3+ minutes.

Also keep in mind that temperature and humidity are a factor in flashing times. It will take longer to flash in colder temperatures and less time in higher temps and high/low humidity impacts how hard/easy it is to remove.

Our dealership uses one (I'm not sure the brand) of course it's eye wateringly expensive, even my cost. But I've seen it left on for 45 minutes and come off just fine with a microfiber. Been on our demo Telluride since we got it, parked on the front line of a very busy road the whole time, harsh hot sun, awful winter. Seems like it's still 100%. I'd imagine more DIY focused products have also come a long way in application difficulty
