I'm sure it is something easy to fix but it has me stumped. I have a 2019 GTS and the remote has Lock, Unlock, Panic, and a Trunk Open button. The Trunk button does not open the trunk and there is no button to open it from inside the car like for the gas tank. I'm sure I am missing something but is the buttons above the license plate the only means of opening my trunk.
I took it to the dealership and they said the remote button wasn't supposed to work and that it was normal. If anyone can help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.

On another note I was wondering if anyone has figured out how to leave the car running and lock the doors with the remote if you want to run into the store and not shut the car off. I also would love to have remote start and was wondering what is the best option.

Thanks in advance, Trent

Not sure if the options are different for the GTS, but I have a 2019 GT2, and the button on the remote unlocks and raises the trunk (actually it is more of a hatchback). You have to press and hold the button for a couple seconds to activate it.
Also, there is a trunk button next to the fuel door unlock button inside, but again, you have to press and hold it for it to activate. I can also turn on the smart trunk feature where (if the car is locked), I just stand behind the car for a couple seconds with the fob, and the trunk will open automatically.

Thanks! I can hold the trunk button the remote and the lights will flash twice but nothing opens. I went through my settings ant I didn't see anything related to the smart trunk option. Maybe the GTS is the low end model and just doesn't have that option.

I have a 2019 GTS as well. My rear hatch is a manual open as well. The GTS's do not have all the options that the GT1's have and the remote hatch access is one that we do not have. We have some goodies like limited slip rear diffs on rwd models and all the carbon fiber and alcantara bits on the interior. Actually my hatch started rattling over bumps at just 2,500 miles. The dealer repaired it for me last week. Anyway our GTS's are different from the regular Stinger lineup.

Sure would have been nice if the GTS had all the options of the GT2 as well as the dress-up bits. Perhaps they were available as add-on options, but might have made it more expensive than most people wanted.

So do you think that the trunk button on he remote isn't supposed to work on the GTS?

Not sure, from what clemson85 said, maybe not. He has a GTS and said it is manual.

So you have the button on your remote as well? If you hit the button do your lights blink twice? If it blinks maybe it is something that would be an easy add on to get it to work.

Most modern cars I have owned in the last 20 years (including an Optima EX) would at least unlock the trunk with the remote or button on the dash, but you had to raise it manually. My Stinger GT2 is the first car I have owned that has a power lift.

I have a 2020 GT1, and my car does not have a button in the interior of the vehicle to pop the trunk.
Like you, once I press the button the the key fob, the lights on my car flash twice, but that is about it.
The GT2’s are the only current trim that has a power trunk feature.

Unless you have a GT2, the trunk button on the remote will not open it. The only thing it's good for is starting the car remotely if you have the OEM remote starter installed.

The hatch lid button on the key fob will unlock the hatch if you're standing close enough to open it. Once I figured out exactly where the unlock button is on the hatch lid I stopped using the fob to unlock it.

Yes I do have the hatch unlock button on my key fob. I will go out to my car and try the hatch release button and just verify that it does not work on the GTS's.

Tried the hatch release button multiple times all around the hatch multiple times and I get the double light blink. It is one of several options that the 800 GTS's in the US don't have like cooled seats, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist. I kind of like the lower amount of electronics for long haul ownership. I only use my hatch on trips anyway so it was not a show stopper for me.

Heh!? Once again, "Human memory is a fallible device, and not something that one should pay too much attention to." I just went out and tried my "Hold" button on the fob, and my lid has no response, but those blinking taillights sure are cheery. :P Tried unlocking the car first, and it made no difference. I have no explanation why I remember unlocking the lid long ago with the fob. Oh, well. It doesn't matter; I've misremembered/forgotten far more significant things than this.

I really don't understand why Kia couldn't make the trunk release button functional for all models. It doesn't have to actually open the hatch all the way (or close it if it's open); all I want it to do is just release ("pop") the hatch.

Amen! That's all I want. I have a 2020 Optima Turbo and the tunk just pops it doesn't raise and it's fine.

Only the GT2 has the auto open hatch and the dash button but I feel like the others should at the very least pop it open/unlock it so you can then lift it.

It isn't a deal breaker obviously; but it is an annoying omission: and was actually the first head scratcher I noticed, if I recall correctly, the first day I had the car (even my '94 Voyager had a hatch release button in the cabin, albeit no longer functioning: so that probably made this quirk of the GT1 easier to live with).

I've been in, driven, owned, worked on hundreds of cars. I don't think I have ever seen a vehicle where the fob doesn't pop the truck or hatch until hearing this about the stingers. Not a deal breaker no but 100% very odd.
