Hey guys I've been having this issue for a couple days now.

It started with me turning on the car and hearing one loud "Pew" noise, and now with each time I start the car it seems to make the noise one more time eg, next time it goes "Pew pew." Now I have a car that 10 seconds after turning it on goes "pew pew pew" for like a full minute. I can not find what is causing the noise and it is aggravating me to no end. I thought it was a parking brake alert noise, but it doesn't matter whether the parking break is engaged or disengaged. Has anyone seen this?

Here's a video of the sound:

Fart detector!
But seriously I haven't heard anything like that before. It seems to be a first.

That’s bizarre. What button in the video are you toggling to get it to stop?

Never heard that before, so why aren’t you taking it to the dealer?

It stops on its own. Each progressive start up, it makes the noise one more time it seems. It does not happen 100% of the time, but extremely consistently. Maybe 95%? And always does one more iteration on each follow startup.

Take it to a service department, I doubt you’ll find the issue here.

I would contact the service manager and send the video to them first. Might be something easily addressed in the garage.
I’m definitely curious to find out.
Thanks for posting this.

I'd call the service department from the car, start it up and let them hear it. Easiest way to ask about it. This is hands down the weirdest "issue" I've heard about so far. Lucky you indeed.

Yup! That is weird. First time I've heard that in a car unless the alarm is triggered lol

Wishing you luck! My '11 Optima had a "Whoop" noise it would do every so often, but could never replicate it on demand.

Sometimes starting the car up, "whooooOOP"
Sometimes when making a left turn after a full stop "WhOOooP"

Wasn't a daily occurrence, and never did it from a cold start, but could never replicate or record the issue to show it to a tech so they would know what I was talking about because it was so random. It was nice when a passenger would hear it too and realize I wasn't crazy and my car did actually go whoop.

Are the Pews coming from the cabin or outside from under the hood?

I got a service appointment for tomorrow morning. I'm scared of that happening, haha. It seems to only happen on cold starts... how long until it is cold enough for it to happen, I don't know.

They're super loud, and seem to be coming from like the fuse box area if that makes sense? Inside the cabin I am pretty sure. Wondering if the dealership did something janky, the fuse box is probably where an aftermarket alarm or something would be stored but I'll be pissed if that's what happened. I couldn't find anything that didn't look like it belonged in there though.

You didn't miss a payment, did you? ;)

All jokes aside, the sound in the video linked in this Reddit post does sound the same.

Lol the thought crossed my mind, even though we bought it in cash... It would be absolutely absurd imo if a dealer had some kind of kill switch or something on a vehicle that was purchased in cash, it is completely 100% unequivocally my property.

Some dealerships install theft detectors on the car. Do you see any unusual holes that have been drilled under the steering area? Look near the fuse box. Could be they installed one and didn't properly remove it after selling to you and now it's malfunctioning.

I have to say I'd be absolutely FURIOUS if my dealer installed or left installed a GPS tracking device or kill switch on my car whether financed through them or not. Thankfully that would be illegal under North Carolina’s Cyberstalking statute (NCGS §14-196.3(b)(5) specifically prohibits a person from installing, placing, or using an electronic tracking device to track the location of a person without his or her consent). Though I assume they probably could include that in the loan language -- which I would never sign off on.

I'll go back and check again today, but not that I saw. I called the dealership I bought it from and they didn't seem to think it was something they installed, but also had no idea what the noise was. To make matters more complicated they're a state away if this is something they installed...
