OMG $2000 for a front windshield

Window info
Thanks for the pic - same one as mine. St. Gobain is a major windshield manufacturer, but I see this one is 'KIA' branded and according to my glass supplier not available to the aftermarket as yet.

When I ordered a BMW windshield a few years back I was told that the local supplies were all PPG/ PGW manufactured, but it was 50/50 if it came in with a 'BMW' logo on it or not. Same glass, regardless, from the same company. Other parts of the world had different glass manufacturers for that same car.

Fortunately the crack hasn't spread yet - but I'll be keeping an eye on it. It is about 10.5 inches long, which is almost at the limit for what they will even try to repair.

Any updates on windshield cost? I'm seriously looking at a new Stinger, and if glass is that much. Yike!
I had the original windshield replaced by the insurance company because of a crack, just before my initial bridge policy expired. When I re-insured the car with another company, I used a separate company (AIM) for windshield (only) insurance coverage on the advice of my broker - they were cheaper than the insurance company wanted, they will do up to three replacements a year for a only a 50 dollar deductible, and replacements have no effect on your primary car insurance rating. If you're in Alberta, that might be an option you want to check out - and they may operate in other provinces as well.

As for current cost, I have no idea if the glass has come down yet, but back in May it had to come through KIA and it was mucho expensive. To find out, call a glass shop and tell them you want the 'no insurance' price on a replacement.

Well guys,

Title says it all.... I have a crack that has spread do to a crap window chip repair and decided to call my Kia Dealership up here in Canada and a price... I called a couple of glass shops as well to price check and they were sick to hear that number.. comments i had were "that is the price you would pay for a RV windshield" and "A Range Rover windshield doesn't cost that much".. Needless to say i am super pissed with Kia and I am wondering if anyone else has priced a windshield out and what was the cost you were Quoted...

This is a Stinger not a FN Lamborghini..
I bought my stinger in for an oil change and they check my inside air filter and found it wet they gave me a appointment to remove the windshield and to reseal it at no cost to me it's covered by the warrantee.

Does insurance not have full glass coverage in Canada?

It's available, but is optional and can be an expensive add-on. Due to the conditions I mentioned above, windshields in our neck of the woods don't look forward to a long and happy lifetime - so insurance companies price the coverage accordingly ...

I've noticed that, in recent years, my vehicle windshields seem far more susceptible to damage than in the past. Between my wife and me, we've likely had over a dozen rock chips repaired and two windshields replaced on our vehicles in the past 5 years. We have glass coverage on our insurance policies, so the rock chip repairs were all covered at no cost and the windshields at $100 deductible.

The affordability of glass coverage obviously depends on your insurer, but I just checked my policy and see that my $100 deductible glass coverage costs me $72 for the year. A no-brainer in my opinion.

A lot of tech in these windshields nowadays. My friend had to pay a couple of grand for his Range Rover windshield.

This - things like HUD increase the cost by a good margin.

I ended up having to pay out of pocket for a windshield replacement in the fall. It was $700 for the glass and $140 for my local auto glass shop to install it. That was the cost through my dealership and I don't have HUD, so just the minimal amount of tech for ambient light and moisture sensors. With HUD and rain sensing wipers add another ~$200. I could have saved some money going with Safelite but wanted to stick with OEM parts and they use aftermarket.

My insurance broker has set me up with windshield insurance for $160 Canadian a year. $20 deductible for chips and cracks and $60 deductible for a full replacement. Best part is you don’t get ding on your insurance if you need to use it, where I live rock chips and cracks are common.

Who's the carrier for the windshield glass? Mine is with AMI, and their rate for the Stinger is $222/year.

In Canada there is a company called AMI Insurance which covers glass only. My premium this year is C$222 with a C$50 deductible. I'm having my windshield replaced by Crystal Glass in Calgary in the next couple of days. They told me it is an OEM Kia windshield which costs C$1400. They also charge C$169 for the camera calibration. If you don't use the ADAS features then don't bother with the calibration.

mine is covered with my insurance too.
2 months old car, last July2019 , took a massive rock to the windshield out of nowhere, no traffic at the front ... 100bucks deductible and I ask to see the full bill they footed to the insurance and it was over 2K Cnd.

Oct 2019, crack again on the corner, looks like a stress crack and guess who is going to go again for a new windshield in July - this guy....
my insurance is going to hate me.

Car is 15 month old and this will be the 3rd windshield install on her since she left the factory...

The Stinger windshield for the GT Limited was extremely expensive when it first came out as the only place companies could get it was from the dealers, but the price has come down considerably. I called around to some local glass shops and the windshield can be bought and installed for a little more than half that (calibration not included). I'll probably drop the extra glass coverage after this year, and 'self insure'.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Crystal Glass, as they've done poor and overpriced work for me in the past - and AMI is pretty much tied to using them.

Please add your location to your profile - you'll find it's a big help as far as getting good responses to your posts ...

Just looked up AMI, $228 for the year for glass coverage. Sonnet wanted upwards of $75/month to add glass coverage. Worth it to me for at least the first couple years.

I gotta look into this for mine ... not sure that I was paying more for it.

$700 for the glass with the HUD film from local glass shop. $350 without the HUD lol

Thanks for this. I added glass coverage for the first time on a vehicle because of the price of the glass on this car. Ill probably take it off now, especially since I dont have a HUD.

I just found my bill from last year $3056.20 CND lol
