Stinger Owners.....what other cars made your final list?

Anyone else have stories to add?
Hey Flash, I'm a lefty golfer too. Currently gaming the G400 Max.

The only other car I actually looked at in person was a 2018 Honda Accord 2.0T. That car gets great reviews, but is a completely different animal than the Stinger.

Test drove a Stinger GT2 AWD and loved it. But finally went with a 2.0T Premium AWD. Very happy with it.

I was originally planning on keeping my Optima as my daily and getting a 2nd car for weekend warrior fun. First choice was another Buick Grand National (had 2, mechanic wrecked one and I sold the other 10 yrs ago), with other considerations being a silvia or a LS swapped Miata as an insanity option.

While trying to make my mind up I decided to do some work on my Optima myself (trans/coolant/brake fluid flush, brakes, shocks etc), which reminded me that I'm not good at wrenching on cars, so I decided to get a new daily with a bit more oomph.

After looking at reviews the Stinger caught my eye and honestly seemed like a no-brainer with the warranty, but the fake vents turned me off. My first choice was a B8.5 S4, then M235i/M240i, and after some deals fell through on those I also looked at a CTS Vsport, RC F and a few others I forget. Then I saw the G70 3.3T and loved it. Unfortunately there were none to be found. So I took a 2nd look at the Stinger, decided to go test drive a 2019 GT RWD for the hell of it, forgot all about the stupid hood vents and signed the papers that day.

I still think the fake vents are stupid but it breaks necks anyway. :)

Final test drive list:
2019 Audi S5 Sportback - Dealer Demo, 500km on the clock. - $124,000AU in the same configuration as the KIA, great car but not twice the price great.
2018 Lexus GS350 F Sport - Dealer Demo, 900km on the clock. - $106,000AU, but was a bit dated and slow for my liking, has a face only a mother could love.
2019 Infinity Q50 Red Sport - Dealer demo - 85km on the clock. - $85,000AU, Great car but not selling in AU so scared me away, another face only a mother could love.
2018 KIA Stinger GT - Dealer Demo, 28500Km on the clock. - Good well used MY18 car built in 2017.

All good or great cars in their own right, but in terms of value for money the Stinger was just too good, and with over a year of use, it was a quality car, with no issues. I got THE NEW 2019 Stinger GT (GT2 for our American Friends).

I was coming from an A6 avant, so large cargo capacity was a must for me. The A6 with the 3.2L was the most reliable car I've ever owned, and it was definitely elite in its role as a family+family stuff hauler. Boring to drive in anything but a snow covered road doesnt even begin to describe it. The only other car I test drove was an S5 sportback. Great car but the interior space was very sterile. I cant explain it other than driving it did not spark joy, for lack of a better term. There was something about the stinger that had so much more character. I test drove it and the rest is history. Brought it home the next day.

I was looking at Prius and Tesla X too.

2006 Prius > 2015 Mazda3 GT > 2019 Stinger GT

The Prius was “fun” when I got it, but the Mazda3 really opened my eyes up to what it’s like driving a truly fun ride as a daily. After almost 4 years in the 3, I was ready for something more refined, but also fun to drive.

The G70 is the one that’s had me questioning my choice in the past few days, but that car just isn’t sexy, IMO. And utility is a priority.

I do miss the go-cart feel and convenience of having the Kuat Sherpa on the back of the 3, but the extra horsepower, comfort, and Vortex 2500 RS/Thule bike rack combo will hopefully make up for that nicely.

How would you say the experience has been compared to a mazda 3. You glad you switched?

I was returning my 2016 Audi A4 lease and Audi tried to keep me with another A4 (non-Quattro), but they were asking for payments out of my budget.

I then test drove a 2019 Stinger GT1 and I loved it, but the lease they tried offering me was ridiculous, but they had a 2018 GT1 which was pretty much the same ride, just missing some nanny features and the wireless charger and ventilated seats, which all wasn’t too important for me.

I thought about it and went ahead and test drove a G70, which was awesome, but much smaller car (I have a baby and need the extra rear space) and the lease was also ridiculous.

Then I test drove a brand new 2019 BMW 3 series and I liked it a lot, nice power and update tech, but they gave me an insane lease offer of about $600 a month! I was out of there in a flash lol.

Lastly, I test drove a Volvo S60 T5 R-Design and it was a great ride with great tech at a similar price of the ‘18 Stinger. So it was between the S60 and the Stinger and here I am.

I am. I won’t lie, if I were 25, I’d stick to the 3 with the hitch rack. Zipping around town and crushing MTB trails is addictive. That said, the Stinger is a perfect driving experience.

What was your 10-year driving trajectory?

Was holding out for the the release of the FT-1 (Toyota Supra), but the design kept changing and the car release date kept getting pushed.... so - I turned towards the Lexus RC-F. Beautiful automobile - but the interior just doesn’t work for me. Once I saw the Stinger on YouTube, that started me searching more in depth. That turned to me considering a test drive, then more information, then trying to talk myself OUT OF BUYING A KIA STINGER. Didn’t work!!! And no looking back! A year into ownership and it’s still one of my all time favorites!
On a side note - must say the Mustang GT-350 debut @ Detroit auto show is completely Bad Ass!!! It’s a looker!
Enjoy those Stingers my fellow car enthusiasts!! I sure do!! db
I'm also curious about the Lexus RC-F. But it's so much more expensive (new anyway) than the Stinger. What didn't you like about the interior? Just curious. Thanks.

I had interest in the RCF and rcf-350.....beautiful lines but other than the instrument cluster, the interior was bland and dated. That's my feeling at least

Another HUGE issue with the RC-F (and Toyota in general) is their refusal to accept android/Apple car play is superior to the product they push. You didn’t have the option to chose either and I believe to date still don’t. I agree with Lawrence on the interior feeling a bit dated and bland. In comparison to the Stinger - loses across the board. 2 years of owning my GT2 - and no regrets whatsoever!

Audi RS3 or BMW 340i but I fell in love with the GT. Plus the value for my money (Est. 20K saved) I would have been a fool not to go with the Stinger. 5 months later Im still over the moon with the car :D.

I had no intention of getting a car anything like the Stinger. I thought it was time to be socially responsible and go for electric or at least hybrid so looked at a range of those from the Nissan Leaf to the Toyota Corolla. Then one day I had a Stinger in front of me and thought ‘Hmm, nice car’, Googled it, went to have a look, arranged a test drive and my environmental concerns got put on the back-burner for a few years. Sorry Greta!

I wouldn't buy the RC-F at the same price, let alone what they want for it.

It drives like a brick, the Stinger feels much more nimble - even though the weight is similar.

Ever since it came out the stinger was the only car on the list. Before it came out I was looking at an AMG wagon. Took me 2 years and 2 jobs but I got my 2018 GT2. Mind you I don't buy at dealerships, only salvage.

We had a lot of choices if willing to consider a low mileage used car as an option, but my wife was steadfast that she had to have a new car. She wanted another E class MB, but agreed a new one was too much, especially with the maintenance expenses. She did not want a C class but thought a Cadillac might work for her. Cadillacs are not bad cars but a loaded mid size sedan with a 6 cylinder engine would go well over $50K out the door, and I knew I would not be happy with anything less. The latest safety features were also a must, not an option. I really wanted to buy a car for cash, so had set $50K OTD as a maximum and there seemed to be a lot of good choices in the $40K range.

My top pick was the Genesis G70 3.3T, but Carol said she could not see well over the hood and a new one with all of the bells and whistles looked like it would be hard to find at $50K out the door, so it was scratched from the list. Second on my list, was the Stinger GT. We found a new 2019 RWD GT2 in a color we could agree upon, Panthera gray with light gray interior for under $40K and this checked all of my boxes and Carol thought she could live with it, but was disappointed we bought a Kia, after having come from a Mercedes.

I considered a Grand Touring Honda Accord, but Carol would not even look at one. Although we had good luck with 2 Accords in the past, she wanted something different. She liked the Grand Touring Mazda CX5 and I was interested in the Mazda 6 Signature edition, although the latter was reported to be a bit dated since it has not been redesigned lately. My buddy has a loaded CX5 which I have driven and like, but did not think I would enjoy driving one nearly as well as the Stinger 3.3T. I have owned BMWs in the past and feel they are too expensive for what you get and also maintenance is expensive. Ditto for the Audi, so they did not make my list. I like the VWs, especially the Golf R and GTI but Carol had no interest. I considered the Arteon, but really wanted to avoid German cars with their high cost of parts and maintenance.

We have owned our 2019 Stinger GT2 now since January 18, 2020 and I have no regrets. Even Carol is admitting she likes the way it drives, but she thinks the styling is old fashion looking. I disagree and think it is especially well styled for a 4 door hatchback. Moreover, I love how it drives. Great handling and acceleration in a practical design, all for $43K OTD. I may have preferred the Genesis G70 because it is shorter and may handle a tad sharper and I really like its quilted seats. But it does not have the carrying capacity of our hatchback and rear leg room is tight, so the Stinger is more practical and still our best choice, since our other car is a Corvette.

She likes the Mazda 6 but thinks the Stinger is old fashioned? Hmmmmm
Which model Vette?

she thinks the styling is old fashion looking.
Wow that's interesting.
I think the styling is very modern and the Stinger makes some other cars look down right " prehistoric "
