• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Hi all - long time watcher, been sleeping for a while!

I'd say I was possibly top 10 in terms of first deliveries into Aus (my guess only)... So love the car.... early adopter, just saying!!

Apparently I'm 'due' for a service, based on time period ... not km ... which is the biggest load of rubbish I've heard lately... I'm at 28,500 right now, and do low miles, so I'm annoyed about the push here. I actually think this 'must service with us' talk is ACCC worthy. KIA have been done before for this sort of thing.

Ideas? Links?

Not in Australia mate, you can get a log book service anywhere.

"Provided you service the vehicle in accordance with any such requirements, the warranty will remain valid. If the manufacturer's warranty states that the vehicle can only be serviced by an authorised dealer, this may raise concerns under the Competition and Consumer Act," the ACCC has said in written guidance to the automotive industry.

Car warranties and dealer servicing - CHOICE

I’ve got a feeling the Mechanical Protection Plan is a different animal to the actual KIA warranty but I’m hazy on the details. I think it covers additional stuff over and above the warranty and to be eligible for the MPP they require you to have the car serviced by a KIA dealer. I remember reading something about it when I bought mine but I can’t remember the exact details right now. Their letter is a little bit disingenuous. Technically it says you must have your car serviced with us to maintain your MPP but it lets you believe your jeopardising your warranty if you don’t.

The service schedule is a joke. They had mine set at 6 mths/6,000kms but I changed it to 8,000kms. My car says I'm due for service in 10 days and I've put on 3,000kms on my car since the last service and this car uses synthetic oil! LOL

My last car was an Acura and it had the best service reminder ever, it would take a bunch of different things into consideration and when the time came it would give you a letter and a number so you knew exactly what services it required. On average it would only need to go in once a year because I didn't drive it much.

I thought that 12 months was the interval. Anything less than that is just pampering the thing. :P

BMW service intervals are 15,000km or 1 year apart. Funny how long you can go without scheduled maintenance when it is included in the price for 4 years...just saying.

It's a protection plan covering mechanical breakdown OUTSIDE of manufacturer warranty.
Terms and conditions require the car to be serviced by the selling dealer per KIA schedule. When warranty period expires the car is to be serviced every 6months/10,000km by the selling dealer.
It's just a ploy to try and get you to only go back to selling dealer for services.
Is it worth this loyality? Ask someone after the 7 year warranty expires.

My MPP will void from 1st service. I won't be going back to the selling dealer in my car. TBH I don't like any of the 2 Kia dealers in Canberra.

It’s marketing BS, a Holden Dealer pulled that stunt on me years ago, I stupidly complied to ensure cover then they wouldn’t honour anything, never again.
You buy a new Stinger you get 7 years warranty, 7 years capped price servicing & 7 years roadside assistance, no matter what Kia Dealership you go to after you buy the car.
If you go elsewhere other than a Kia Dealer you will lose the capped price servicing & the roadside assistance parts of the package.

In reality though I feel like a trusted mechanic will do a log book service for cheaper then Kia fixed price service. Most dealers charge exorbitant prices on servicing. I haven’t had to get mine serviced yet so I’m thinking I’ll get a price off my normal mechanic first before going to my nearest Kia dealer.

Doesn’t hurt to ask, I still go to my dealer as I have a relationship with them now for over 10 years so I get “looked” after if you know what I mean.
Plus a dealer serviced car carries a higher value at trade-in time.

The local service dept (3rd party actually) keeps shooting me emails to hurry up and get my car serviced, which is a bit annoying ...

I've sent this to them, and will wait and see what feedback I get...
________

Hi Service Team

I did have my vehicle booked in for <<date>>, but with the COVID restrictions and potential infringements for non-essential travel I had to cancel the service.

Can you please send me NSW government evidence to support the notion, that getting a vehicle serviced is considered acceptable travel at this point in time?
If I look here (Travel and transport advice | NSW Government) I'm seeing other activities are acceptable, but car servicing is not included as far as I can see.

Thanks in advance,
_______

Its strange that you get emails pressuring you to service. Ive never had that with any car ive owned (Euro, Jap, AUS cars). As far as "Essential" or "acceptable" travel, Its completely fine and they have additional sanitary precautions when you drop off/pick up your car. I service at Peter Warren in western Sydney and they seem to things well thought out.

As an update .... I wrote to my dealer seeking a copy of government advice confirming that car servicing was considered acceptable travel. They did respond and said 'no' such advice doesn't exist and I am free to wait until restrictions are lifted. Happy with the response....

I have a new Kia Stinger Gt, so I do remember the deal. Basically, get it serviced at a Kia dealership and they add free roadside assistance to the warranty for another year (It's only free for 12 months when you buy the car) Hence of all services are done at a dealership, the 7 year warranty means you get 8 years free roadside assistance.
