2 weeks in (with a week out of town), so I'm still getting used to the car. I've been playing with the various modes, but I was curious. What modes do you guys generally prefer? I know some folks just go to sport mode all the time. They probably don't deal with the traffic I do on a day to day basis, but I find the suspension to be a little "floaty" and vague going through a turn with an expansion joint in comfort mode. It's got plenty of power in eco mode, but still feels a little boring. So far, smart mode seems to be the best, but honestly, I have no idea what's it's actually doing or why it's "smart". Obviously, I'd be in sport mode for anything performance related, but as a daily driver, those opportunities are present for maybe 5% of the time I'm in the car.

So how do you use them?

While oil temp is reaching its prime, I leave the mode on Comfort (default setting). When I drive long distances, I'll possibly turn to Eco. Every other time, I'll leave it on Sport.

Thinking about possibly buying Pedal Commander though.

"SMART Mode – When SMART mode is activated, the system automatically selects the drive mode best suited to the current driving style. A SMART indicator will illuminate on the instrument cluster. The color of the SMART indicator (green, white, red) depends on the current driving style. To deactivate, rotate the DRIVE MODE knob
A again to change the selection to another setting."

I still don't have a full grasp at what Smart means either. I think I read here that it calibrates and learns as you go, like Android's Adaptive Brightness.

Sport if the roads don't suck. My custom is set up to be sport drivetrain and comfort everything else. While the car is cold or if I'm in traffic or just in the neighborhood or roads are crap, I'm in custom. For road trips, smart mode. It'll settle into behavior like Eco when you're just cruising to save a little gas but mashing the pedal will wake it up and it'll behave more like it would in Sport.

99% Sport. I'm so used to the responsiveness, everything else seems too sluggish. Sometimes switch to Comfort cruising on the highway. My Custom mode is basically Sport with more AWD for wetter conditions.

I just got my car a couple weeks ago as well and I've been keeping it in smart mode as well. Eco and comfort don't have the responsiveness that i'm looking for and Sport is way to much to sit in traffic. Smart is supposed to adapt to your driving and I think it's a good compromise

Not so. I thought the ECU(?) memorized driving style, but was disabused of that notion through discussion and rereading the manual. What Smart is doing is anticipating your "next move" based on what you are doing right now and what the car is responding to right now. So, if you are light braking and feathering the accelerator, and going around curves carefully (say, it is snowy and you're driving very conservatively), Smart will provide input to help that driving style. But if you stick your foot in it and enter Comfort or even Sport mode, then Smart will respond with suspension input to match and engine response accordingly. I use Smart when the roads are threatening to turn icy, or even just when it is slushy and snowy. It can't hurt to have Smart backing your efforts to be conservative.:)

90% plus of the time, I have Custom selected and I am manually shifting in Manual Gate. Custom is Sport except for engine/transmission. You are right, Eco is plenty powerful for most situations, so I have engine/transmission in Eco. Sport suspension is plenty comfortable for me, and I like the better feedback in curves or when steering "spiritedly".

Custom mode with engine/steering in sport and suspension in comfort. Whenever I forget to put it back in Custom mode after starting it up again, it feels restrained in the default comfort mode. I end up always leaving it in custom mode.

Sport: Always

But if I ever use another mode it's Custom and that's set to "Sport" settings. :D

Mainly Comfort but for a bit of extra noise will switch to Custom with engine set to sport but all else on comfort. A bit of Sport every now and then depending on road and traffic conditions. In 18 months of ownership I haven't bothered with Smart or Eco all the much.

I used to do a Custom setup, with all but engine set to Sport, this would tighten up the ride. Since installing the Mando box and applying my own setting, I use Smart and Eco more to get some better economy. That coast feature is pretty handy and actually does help with the economy.

Comfort.

I’ve gone to mostly custom with everything on sport except steering which is on comfort.

I may be the odd one out here, but i drive mostly in ECO. If I need extra power or responsiveness, I will switch it to sport when needed.

i drive in comfort 90% of the time and sport the other 10%. Stopped using eco because I didn't seem to get any better gas mileage than I do in comfort, even with coasting. I hit 33mpg once in comfort mode on the highway, so i leave it there. I don't bother with smart because I don't like being "between modes". I want to be definitively in a certain mode. And i don't use custom because I like the presets, so I dont need it. I wish there was a snow mode though.

See, this is why I use Eco 99% of the time. I drive a few other cars fairly regularly, and they feel sluggish compared to the Stinger in ECO. So the Stinger to me feels great in Eco. When I switch over to Sport mode, the car feels just sooooooo good. So So good. It's an extra special treat.

Life is short!:( Treat yourself daily.:)

Smart is good for that. It "anticipates" based on the kind of driving style you use right now. I gather that there is a built in "lag time", such that the input of your driving causes the suspension, brakes and throttle response to match that. So, driving conservatively (in snow, for instance) should create a conservative feedback.
