Hi,

For anyone who lives in a state (like California) that requires front plates, what do you do to mount them to minimize scratching to the paint? The mountain kit Kia gave is just a thick piece of plastic. So if I ever want to uninstall it, I'm sure there will be marks all over the front paint.

Was thinking some kind of foam backing on either the plate itself, or on the mounting bracket. I'm sure I can't avoid the screw holes, but hopefully can at least minimize edge damage from the plastic piece.

Thanks

Yes to that ^^^.

That way, you can remove it at will. Why not try and avoid being pulled over by cops at all? That way, most states can't/won't cite you for just a missing front plate. In Utah, for example, no front plate is a "second offense"; only added onto a first offense, like speeding: and even then, probably only if you piss the cop off.

I have a question regarding the front plate.
Figured i would change out the standard holder to perhaps a silver one, would that look alright on the hichroma red?

Dark chrome would look better; deliberate.

thanks. I have seen these too. Just trying to decide if I like the look of it to the side or not. Or if I just take my chances at not getting pulled over. haha

Seems that i only kind of find regular chromed holders here in sweden :/
This will require more effort. Online search as a start; and failing that, then wrap a license plate frame in the right color; or paint it.

Not in Texas! I just got pulled over Friday for no plate and that was the ONLY offense! :)

Sly Bracket. Use this to mount your plate in the middle of the bumper without drilling holes.

This looks really good! Looks like they're on back order right now but will be getting on the waiting list. Thanks!

Vendors of silicone frame holders claim that they won’t scratch the paint....

I'm in CA and haven't put a front license plate on a car in over 10 years. I wouldn't worry about it unless you get a fix it ticket.

In Oregon, a lot of intersections have cameras that are triggered to take pictures if a vehicle enters the intersection after the light turns red .... a big revenue source for the city & it probably also has reduced accidents at certain intersections. I suspect it would be pretty easy to be cited for not visibly displaying a front license plate....

Those things usually go off when you run the light in that case you'll get two tickets one for running a red light and one for no front license plate....so I guess don't run any lights :)

Meter maids in Oregon will be happy to cite you for not displaying a license plate .... You don’t need to be in the car .... it can be cited if parked on a public street. Recommending to not display a front license plate is not good advice.

I think he's from CA though :) but we'll all make a note to have our front plate on if we drive in Oregon

I also bet the highway speed cameras (in Eugene?) would trigger this, unless if they don't photograph the rear of the offending car.
