Jacking this bloody Car up

I just said to myself WTF $745.
But then I watched the Utube video, not a bad product but way overpriced.

I'll shape some 2 x 10's, and carriage bolt them together, before I'd pay that kind of $$ for a ramp. They would be heavy, but how often do you use them? A little exercise won't kill ya!

How far to the left or right of the “official” jacking point can you move across and still be safe?

As far as you want. The pinch weld area is quite strong. The key is to use a pinch weld adapter. You don't want to jack straight on the pinch weld because it'll just fold over. The pinch weld in the official jack area is reinforced to avoid folding, so it's good on jack stands there. But you should always use a pinch adapter on ANY modern car. At the very least, use something large like a block of wood to spread the lift over a long section of pinch.

The rocker panel isn't a problem. It's plastic. It'll push right out of the way of a pinch adapter.

Do you place this jack pad to the right/left of the designated jack point, and use your pump jack here, then place your jack stand on the jack point?
Depends how early or late in the day it is.

The stinger is an absolute unit, including the pinch weld. If you use a pinch weld adapter (linked above) you can jack up the stinger from anywhere along the pinch weld.

In the morning this is as close to the jack stand point as possible while maintaining the space needed for the base of the jack stand.

At the end of the day this is in the middle of the stinger so I jack once to install front and back jack stands same time.

No bends, No damages to the plastic skirts - multiple stingers

Thanks for the info, I already purchase that same pinch weld adapter

Before I ordered the ramps, I ordered a pinch weld adapter. But, even though those ramps are expensive, have to admit, it’s a glorious way to do the job, and I have a $100,000 investments to baby, so.........:)

Heh, one of the first things I do with a car is find the balance point where I can get the front and rear to both lift when jacking from one point.

Good find on the pinch weld adapters - i'm getting them too! (I love this forum!)

I also want to make a "improved" exhaust "bracket" that prevents you from jacking the rear crossmember (aft of the diff).
I plan to just take a longer aluminum tube and make it "U" shaped a bit (so a jack could clear it) and crush the ends and drill a hole for the mount bolts...

For oil changes, installing sway bars, etc I have used a pair of Rhino Ramps for about 15 years, Front wheel, rear wheels-- never had a problem. Now the Race Ramps are great-- but these $40 ramps have served me well for over a decade and a half.

The Rhino Ramps we have did not work. Contacted the bodywork before the tire was anywhere near them. Same on my daughters C5. I guess they're not all equal. Ours are about 25 years old.

So I bought a bottle jack for the car, Unfortunately it is about half an inch to high to get under the car. Probably even more with the pinch weld adapter in there. Is it safe to drive the car up on to a piece of wood to raise car high enough to get the jack in there, then put in the jack stands? I guess I would need 4 pinch weld adapters rather than 2 then. Or should I just get a legit vehicle jack?

You can drive up on blocks to get the height, but if the budget allows, just get a proper decent jack, itll make you life a lot easier. Around here you can pick up a decent looking low profile jack that can go up high enough to change the tires on an SUV for only 130 bucks CAD (costco). I have 3 jacks and I'm even eyeing it up lol

The only thing I'm worried about is where to place jack stands after getting it in the air. Should I have the jack stands on the pinch weld portion and then raise it up at an area a few inches in front or to the rear of the weld?

I jack just behind the pinch weld notch (towards the wheel), then place jack stands at the notch... the lower the jack.

Use a pinch weld adapter on your jack. They're cheap. Then you can jack up anywhere along the pinch weld.

Soooooo I used a cheap pinch weld adapter from Amazon and on my first attemt there was a loud POP sound from the area. A lot of dust blew out. I immediately lowered the car and it looked fine. I was using it as directed, in the lift area. I have no idea what caused it but maybe the adapter shifted because there was some damage on it's side afterwards. I then tried again but this time a little to the left. No pop, got it up just fine. Same location other side, no pop. I hope I didn't just pop a weld or something.
