Winter Rim Setups

Received my new winter wheels last week, while rolling one into the garage my wife came out with our dog..I stopped to pat him and the wheel fell over on its face! couple nice scratches on 2 spokes, here's a picture just before I f'd up :).

That's the virtue of black rims; a Sharpie removes 90% of the visual from a few feet away; and black touchup kits are the easiest thing to find in an auto parts store.

Good point! Finding out you need them when you have a flat in a snowstorm wouldn't be a happy occasion ...

But are you sure that the tuner lugs commonly used with aftermarket wheels wouldn't work in a pinch? The thread is obviously correct, and the outside dimensions smaller - is the seat angle different?

They may or may not, so you should confirm..it was part of the directions that came with my new winter setup.

If you get a direct set, 5x114.1 abd 67.1 for bore, it will fit just as the oem wheels and therefore you can reuse your nuts

I see many of you use FC04 from Fast Wheels. Why not their SWITCH model which is direct fit?

That’s the one I just ordered

I like the looks of the FC04 better (a subjective thing), they are lighter than the Switch model rims (a performance thing), and the design is easier to clean (a convenience thing).

As for the 'direct fit' I see no advantage to it - actually the locator rings provide a protective barrier against rim/hub corrosion forming. The rings pop in once to the rim and are never removed, are not visible when installed, and simply locate the assembly accurately during mounting. The conical seated lug nuts provide the mechanical attachment to the hub assembly - there is no strength advantage to one over the other.

I don’t have many options here ..
Im not sure about them two .. dark chroma blue with the silver ones might be a nice mix of colors .. but the black one isn’t bad too ..

K guys, newbie here with a questions that's probably been answered 400 times already. I'm running an 18 GT Limited (GT2) AWD with staggered 19s. Actually using the Fast FC04 in black as my 19" summer rims. Going to 18s for winter so I need to figure out what rims I need. I've read +30 to +40 offset, correct? Now if I found some cheap Core Racing Lizeas in 18x8 that were only +20 would I use spacers to add the other +15 or so? Or am I doing this wrong?

Thanks

You're doing it wrong, adding spacers will drop your offset pushing your wheels out even more. So for example if you have wheels with an offset of +20 and you add a 15mm spacer, your offset will be +5.

This image helps explain what the difference is between low and high offsets.

I want to go with Fast wheel SWITCH
18x8
5x114.3
67.1
35 offset
Tires P225/45R18
Et voilà!

What's with most of the winter wheels on tirerack in black. Some of us don't care for black wheels. Enough with the black wheel trend already. Even winter wheels are not safe from it.

I think it's a nice change up from the stock 19" summer tires/wheels, black for winter/OEM for summer

My new ride! Picked her up today with winter wheel/tire package installed (19" Fast Wheel K025). Love the way it looks.
