Canadian Buyers - How much did you pay vs. MSRP?

Hi guys! I'm new to the forum and I have been eyeing the Kia Stinger for quite some time now. I finally test drove it the other day and I was blown away.

The Kia dealership offered me: $47,300 before tax & fees for the MY19 GT Limited. They're also throwing in all-season weather mats and 40 cents off gas card for 500L.

I'm just wondering if this is a good deal before I pull the trigger? I'm also having a tough time deciding which colour combo to get.. Ceramic Silver/Black Nappa OR Thunder Grey/Red Nappa OR Snow White/Red Nappa

I'm heading to the dealership again later today to get into details with the lease/finance.

Any info or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all!!

That seems to be the going price at this point in time for the 19's as they're moving them out. I'd say its a good deal. Just make sure you're actually getting that deal when they show you the cost of borrowing for whatever finance/lease package they put together. Dealers like to show you a lower interest rate and charge you for it by inflating the financed amount.

I'd get them to add on the mud guards as well.

I personally like my Ghost grey (ceramic) on black but the Thunder grey on red is a close second. I think white is over-played these days but it does look nice on the Stinger.

What 'fees' are they excluding, and at how much? Delivery/Destination? Color Upcharge? A/C Excise? Tire Levy? Provincial regulatory agency? Admin/Documentation Fee? Others?

All I saw on the sales paper was a $499 documentation fee. I will update you guys after talking to the lease/financing department.

This is my first time buying a car from a dealership so I probably will have to spend some more time researching. I would hate to get screwed over.

Thanks for the tips guys

New to the forum, I Just got a '19 GT Limited (red). Thanks for the posts from others on cost which gave me an idea where I should be aiming to negotiate for the car in Canada.

For those interested, I was only able to get the price down to $44,450 (car, freight, fees, etc.) plus tax, nothing extra other than winters rims at cost.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I've been eyeing up moving into a 19 as a lease (various reasons)...the deals right now are getting pretty good. I've done the math and excluding any "hidden" charges, running the numbers against the Kia Canada site, I'd be looking at about 3K "extra" to move into a '19 as a lease that ends at the same time as my current financing, if I bought it out at the end. The beauty of the lease is if I'm sick of the car after the 4 years, they can take it back and I saved myself almost 200 a month on the payments...it's almost at the point of break even....very tempting.

Would you be trading the car in or selling privately?

Would you be trading the car in or selling privately?

If I was going new for new, I would just trade due to the convenience factor and the value of the car on the used market with buyers needing loans, etc.

I decided I won't be doing this though, the offers that I thought would stack might don't appear to (0 percent interest on the lease plus 5K off). Not to say the dealer wouldn't give a smoking price with some negotiations. Two parts of why I wonders about 19s is because I have a flawed car (primary issue is noisy sunroof, but there are other small quality flaws), I basically feel like I got a built on Monday or Friday car, even though it was a Wednesday car. I figured a trade would get me away from the annoyances and a lease means I could just give it back if I don't like it after 4 years, but it turns out 19's on the dealer lots have the same issues as mine so there is no point to try to trade away the issues. I'll just wait until spring and see if I can get my stuff fixed, maybe a TSB might come out for the sunroof, or who knows what other schemes I'll concoct. I do want to pick up a used first gen or second gen Miata next year, and that could very well end up with me selling the Stinger on the side next summer and picking up a used winter car to go with the Miata and just have used cars moving forward. Every new car I own just seems to leave me disappointed in less than a year.

I would just trade right over to something else, but anything else I've been looking at ends up being a 70K+ car and I just don't want to spend that much.

Here's what I paid exactly:

Stinger GT Limited 20th Anniversary: $46,000
Trade-in: $32,000
Paid: $14,000 Cash.

Bought a set of TuxMats for the winter ($185) and a set of Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 that goes right on the staggered setup ($1,200). For a total of $47,385 my car is summer/winter ready.

Also note that I have my native card and live on a reserve so I don't pay taxes on the car or the tires.

I found an Atomic Blue 2019 GT Limited that was sitting on the dealer lot in AB for at least a month, and had been moved from another dealership - manufacturing date was Aug 2018. I knew they wanted to sell it, so I tried being aggressive with pricing but some things were installed prior to my purchase. It came with an aftermarket block heater and wheel locks.

Purchase price was a shade under 45,000 before taxes. I negotiated the purchase in August with $4000 rebates from Kia included, and picked up in September and the dealership was happy to apply the extra $1000 for September "Chase Is On" rebate.

I highly recommend Southland Kia in Medicine Hat if anyone is in Calgary/SE Alberta. The drive was worth the savings.

ETA Thanks to everyone in this forum for the assistance with this purchase. The info was invaluable.

I just visited a Kia dealer in the lower mainland today and boy was it a bad experience. Sales guy was quite nice and friendly, not very pushy at all, although he didn't give me a chance to try the car out on the highway to really flex it's muscles. He did, however lead me down an empty side road and let me gun the car up to 100km/h a few times, just no launches though. On the other hand, sales manager was a total ****head. Tried to pawn a demo model with 4000kms for $54k with a $2800 discount. I told him I would rather buy a new car rather than a demo and he made an offhand comment about how they only had one brand new red 2019 GT Limited left in stock, even though on their site, they have 7 GT Limited listed in various colours.
I had previously spoken to their online sales guy/manager and he offered me a brand new 2019 GT limited @ $53,630 (already well above the MSRP in Canada) with $5000 rebate and another $3775 for a total of $44,855. I told him about the email correspondence and said that I wouldn't mind negotiating further and financing on their current 0% 60 months promo. He refused to discuss the price any further, was reluctant to honour the quote in the email until I showed him the actual email on my phone and then turned around and said that he would only agree to finance the quote at 3.69% up to 84 months instead of 0% 60 months or 0.99% 72-84 months. I walked out at that point and thanked the sales guy, not the sales manager, for his time.

Maybe some Canadians can give me an opinion on this? Am I asking for too much or is the sales manager's "counteroffer" any good?

I purchased my '19 Stinger Limited in Edmonton, Alberta a few weeks ago and this is what I came in at: ~$51,500CAD all in for the car (does not include the extras I quote below). No trade in. This was financed so keep in mind that it did not get the cash purchase rebate, but rather the smaller rebate for financing. I've noticed some other dealers doing the bait and switch with people quoting the cash purchase price with the higher Kia Manufacturer rebates and pretending that is what you get when you finance. That is wrong and some seriously deceptive practices from other dealers, so be aware of that. I probably could of got more off the price, but I bought from the owner of the dealer who is a friend of mine and he has been really great to me over the years of owning Kias. Personally eating costs here and there for random things, selling me extras/aftermarket items at cost, etc. He needs to make money, has a wife and kids and I'm happy to support him.

I did get 84months at 0% financing (Kia loyalty reduced it from 0.99% to 0%). Included in the deal was free lifetime oil changes (I get those every 5,000km or 3months - reason is GDI, turbos, and, well, free), free all weather mats and cargo tray, $1,500 for winter tires on some nice aftermarket rims (18" tires), free 3M applied to the front and mirrors, and an extension to the bumper-to-bumper warranty to 200,000km or 10yrs, which also includes coverage on the first 5 years for tires and rims (those babies are expensive to fix if you hit any potholes, of which Edmonton has plenty). The extension cost me $3,500 (which is the cost to the dealer - they like to mark this option up to $7k-$8k). I went for the warranty because this car has too many bells and whistles and a high performance engine. The warranty is transferable so my bet is that it will help me on resale as any discerning purchaser would likely be concerned with repairs in the future. If I don't transfer the warranty, then I get $2,000 back (at the beginning of the extension, then a declining balance as I dip into the extension).

One thing to know about the financing options is that they can give you a couple different options. Either a higher interest rate (3.69%) with a higher rebate from the manufacturer of somewhere around $3,000 I think, which makes the price of the car look lower but then you end up taking it in the teeth on interest expense. Or they subvent the interest rate (lower it out of pocket) to 0 - 0.99%, but then you get a lower rebate from the manufacturer of around $1,000. More often than not, the lower rebate (higher purchase price) will make you better off because you have a much lower cost of financing. On $51,500 at 84 months at 3.69% is ~$7,000 in interest expense, however 0.99% is ~$1,800 (obviously 0% is $0 in interest). So keep that in mind when negotiating.

Hey Sushi, just went through this last week.

If you want to use the $5000 cash discount, but still want to finance, the interest rate will be the Kia Prime of 3.69%.

The other option is 0% 60 months and new for October, 0% 84/96 month.

It's one or the other, can't use the $5000 AND 0%.

Having said that, for the past couple of weeks, I have been on a hunt for a 2019 GT Limited White with Red Interior. As this is a desired combo there is just 1 new one in the whole province in Ontario, 16 hours away from me. After Vehicle Transport Services, the cost is just too much. I went for a local Demo w/ 8000k's. I worked a deal for $2500 off MSRP of $49,995. Then the Kia Factory Incentive of $5000 off, plus freight & tax only, no other fees (no admin, PDI, air & tire stewardship). This also included tint on rear and side windows and a blacked out roof. Plus negotiated a really good deal on my trade @$20000, incorporate the tax savings puts the trade at Market value, not trade value.

So, $42,500 plus freight and tax.

I'm still haggling and I have 3 dealers competing at the moment. I've currently got the best offer down to $50,000 OTD financing at 3.69%. When I tried negotiating on the finance rate, the dealer said the rate was non-negotiable so based on what you said, I guess he wasn't lying. I'm just going to try and squeeze them down as low as I can. Another $1000-$1500 off that and I think I'll settle the deal. It's just a shame non of the dealers in my area have a 2019 in Atomic blue, it's my favourite and one of the dealers competing has thunder grey but not in a red interior.

2019 Stinger GT Limited sticker price with 0% financing is 54,905.76 (Alberta 5% tax, will be more in other provinces), with the block heater which every Canadian dealer usually installs.

So they're giving you the car for 50,000 TOTAL price after all financing interest is considered, or that's 50,000 PLUS you need to pay 3.69% financing on top? If you're paying 50,000 total on the term (833.33 per month for 60 months), then you're getting almost 5K off sticker (considering the 0% financing deal right now). You might be able to squeeze a bit more, but it's not a bad deal, depends if they have many 19's on the lot and 20's rolling in right now.

If your price is 50K, Plus you need to pay 3.69% (meaning payments are about 913.85 a month for 60 months), then you're not getting a deal at all, you're paying sticker (54,831 paid over the term). If you're in a province with HST, you are saving money there (3K to 4.5K depending where). My calculations assume 5% tax.

*EDIT* Add a 3,660.00 price reduction to all of my statements, I re-read your statement and see "lower mainland," I assume Vancouver area, hence 12% HST.

So if your price is 50+ plus you pay interest, you save about 3660 off sticker. If your price is 50K over the term including interest, you save about 8660 off sticker. I think lol.

Sorry I'll clarify a bit. The offer is $50k after all taxes (12% in BC) and fees with a 3.69% financing for 6 years and I want to drop $10k on the down payment so I'm only financing $40k which works out to be around $4600 in interest equalling $54,600 give or take. I wish I was in Alberta for that sweet low tax. We always get screwed over in BC I think.

Ok, well the GT Limited works out to be about 58,500ish (if considering 0% financing), so you're getting about 3900 off. Not bad but I bet you can press them a bit harder for a few more dollars off. In Alberta these things seem to sit on the lot for a long time so get them to grab you the build/delivered date and use that to your advantage, if it has been sitting on the lot for a long time. They want to move it.

Also, waiting until month end sometimes will net you a better deal if they're not hitting their sales targets for the month.

Keeping in mind that the dealer only has so much negotiation room. Here is the Dealer Invoice Pricing:

2019 Kia Stinger 3.3 T-GDI GT Ltd All Wheel Drive
Base MSRP: $49,995
Invoice Price: $47,170

The markup on the vehicle is:
$2,825

Based on your numbers it appears that your dealer is making approx $500 off markup plus holdback (1.5% - 3%???)
I my opinion, they are giving you a pretty solid deal, with leaving only a little on the table for themselves. Not sure they have much more to give. I got pretty much the same deal on a demo w/ 8000k on it, yours is brand new.
Another $1000 - $1500 off and they would be losing money on the deal. At a $1000 off, they are in the red @ minus $500 and $1500 off, minus $1000. No harm in asking, the worst they can say is no.

Just trying to give you an idea of the numbers they are working with.

Hope you have that Stinger in your driveway soon, with a solid deal.
