• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Alberta Stingers Check In

That fiesta looks sweet....the Stinger also, lol. Didn’t you have rims? Also did you still need the intake covers or was that someone else?

That was me for the intake covers but I'm taking a different approach, using the lower half of the factory airbox and I'm building some custom heatshields for them...almost done...

Sounds sweet, post a pic.

Will do. The shape worked out well, but I wanted to use the stock box clips that hold the lid down on the shield and my first test didn't work great. I rigged up a revision to it and it'll work but I was lazy and didn't finish, plus I hardly need them now since summer is pretty much over...but I should finish soon.

Have some goodies on the way. Just need some plugs now!

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I figured anyone in Calgary would like to know, the Northland Kia service manager and maintenance staff are cool with the jb4 tuner on the stinger.
The service manager has one on his own car.
I had a lengthy conversation about warranty and their thoughts and they are very level headed about it.
Yes if the tuner causes a direct problem you will have to pay for repairs but they said they will fight to cover repairs to car purchased from them despite modifications.

Maybe I'll have to take my car down to Calgary to get the sunroof looked at, that dealer already sounds leaps and bounds better than the one I've been using here in Edmonton.

Rev did you figure out why your performance data shows slower than other modded cars in USA as you’ve stated before? I’m starting to think the Canadian cars have been detuned. My stinger is a mid-low 5 second car 0-60 and I’m curious how the other Canadian cars compare performance wise?

Which dealer have you been using? I've taken my Forte to Sherwood Kia a couple times and haven't had any complaints. They didn't do anything major though, just a service and I had them install the remote starter. Starter install was done in less time and cost less than the quote.

altitude has some affect as well. I know the lower you are the sea level the faster the car is. One of my buddies just picked up an r35 gtr from Kelowna and the car is slower here by a few tenths of a second. Es just shy of breaking low 11s / high 10s.

I'll just leave them nameless for now (there's only 4 dealers in the Edmonton area so it's not too hard to guess). They're not terrible, they give free loaners and all that, but I just don't see them putting in any extra effort to actually fix a problem, they're trying to write off my complaint as normal because they don't want to figure it out.

It's hard to nail down exactly how fast my car is because it is inconsistent. My fastest run was at the track and it's not really slow, but I just expected a few extra tenths out of it considering the times of others. Factors holding me back are likely octane (Canadian gas isn't great), altitude (it's 2200ft at the track) and intake air temps were a bit high. I was also running on Petro 94 for that run and there are quite a few tuners thinking that Shell 91 is better. I'll be able to rule out octane next summer when I go back because I'm going to try an octane booster and see if it gains anything (not changing maps). It's pretty much as fast as my lightly modded 5.0 Mustang, so it's not slow, I'm just playing catch up with our US brethren.

so it is snowing way more than I want to for ahem.. fake winter but I have to wait till at least the 7th before I can get my winters on. I'm assuming it should still be okay to drive with the summers on? This is the first car I've ever had with summer tires so not sure if I should avoid driving until its clear.

If there is snow on the ground, wait it out. The performance summers have virtually no traction on snow - not a good combination at all.

Sounds like my experiences with a dealership conglomerate that rhymes with go. I had to threaten harassment charges against one of their dealerships when I was considering a Jeep Wrangler. The salesman and sales manger called and texted me numerous times a day after I walked away after their complete refusal to deal.

I haven't had anything that bad, it's just that I'm not getting the results or satisfaction they promise. The worst thing is I get the feeling they think I'm stupid, but in reality I've owned and driven numerous cars, all of which I have worked on from top to bottom including entire engine rebuilds, so to tell me something is normal when this is currently the most noise filled car I have owned yet, that's an insult. Come spring time, I'll be looking at having the issue addressed, but I'll probably be taking the car to an independent dealer, not one of the two tied to the conglomerate.

If you find you need to take the car out with anything more than just wet pavement, you need to add a tremendous amount of stopping distance and slow down a lot for corners. The grip on a summer tire on snow is nearly nothing and is very dangerous. To put it into perspective, I drove one of my old cars when it was snowing in October with summer tires, and 50km/h on the Whitemud (80km/h freeway) was way too fast for the conditions, to put it into perspective.

My BOVS arrived today!! Wooo
