Who else has had warped rotors?

I had my second set of rotors installed. Knock on wood... these seem to be holding up better. The parts guy said this time they used a different part number for the rotors. So far so good.

Any chance you have or can get those part numbers??

That's interesting - it's the first sign of any indication that they have an alternative part available...

I had the rear pads and rotors replaced about 6000 miles ago no issue yet
Just in for my 3rd oil change and after about 1 month since the rears had been replaced the tech verified the fronts are acting up and ordered new front rotors, they're on BO.

I wanted to get this on the record with KIA before 12k, I'm at 11.5k now and will definitely be over 12k by the time they come in.

I have 21,000 miles on my Stinger GTII. I called Kia Stinger VIP last month and opened a case, mentioned this has been an ongoing problem since a little before 10K miles. They tried reaching my dealership unsuccessfully 5 times, and have filed 2 complaints against them with the district supervisor for Kia.

They told me today that MANY people call in for this same issue, I told them they should do a recall and upgrade the rotors to strong slotted drilled rotors that can withstand high heat and she (KIA REP) said “I agree!” For now she said they are going to pay for new brakes and rotors for my Stinger. All I have to do is take it into any local Kia dealership, and they will pay for a rental vehicle while mine is being worked on as well. But only as a 1 time courtesy goodwilll gesture (sounds like a rehearsed line).

Here’s what I propose. I have a friend who works at a corporate law firm, in the car industry. Often in litigation with major car companies. I’m going to talk to him about a class action lawsuit against Kia to force them to fix this. If we do this, are the affected participants on this thread (and anyone else who owns a kia Stinger) willing to get on board as plaintiffs in this suit? Reply with a simple yes or no, I’d like to get a rough minimum count before starting this process.

Desired resolution: full replacement with upgraded parts to fix this problem - basically a recall.

Yes

Yes. I had warped rotors. They resurfaced, surprisingly that didn't address the issue. The advisor at my dealership said he never heard of this before and he contacted his rep who is over 13 dealerships never heard of this. With the number of cars sold, that's not that surprising. I spoke to Kia Customer Care and they had. Rep was only willing to replace the rotors, even thought the only reason for replacing the brake pads is because of the rotor issue. Kia Customer Care agreed that the rep should take care of this as well, but couldn't push anymore, but offered to reimburse, which is cool. I have no idea what the benchmark for a recall is, however given the limited number of sales and the number of stinger owners on this thread reporting issues, I would agree that we are headed for a recall. Anything that can be done to push this forward, I will be happy to back. Thank you!

I've searched the forum and saw some mention of these but could not find anyone who has tried them, after all there are 27 pages. Any one? I tried posting a link but was denied because I'm a newbie here, sorry.

I don't have them now... But I will take a look. It may be on my paperwork.

I think I'm getting deposits as well. ~2400 miles, mostly stop-and-go driving with lots of hard starts / stops - I LIKE to drive :-)

Does anyone have a good contact at the Kia support line. I just got off the phone and the individual stated that they can not dictate what the dealerships do. I am a little confused as I see posts where the Kia service line (855-454-2847) was able to assist on getting things resolved. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

So my 2018 stinger made its first visit back to a dealership (not the dealership from where I took delivery) yesterday for the wiring harness recall. I've driven it for a little over a year and it has 12.7K miles. I gave them a list of some relatively minor, to me, issues (oxidation of silver door trim, ends of weather striping on rear window sticking out, auto start-stop feature rarely working, and slight brake judder). I only mentioned the brake judder to see if it was a common occurrence in their shop (even though they only stock one or two stingers in their lot at a time). Well today they call and leave a message informing me that the recall issue is complete and that they will need to keep my car a bit longer. They have ordered new front rotors and are awaiting a response on Kia's Techline on how to proceed with the auto start/stop issue. Interesting that they are throwing new rotors on even though I wasn't really even complaining.

If you mentioned it, it's a complaint. They don't enter things as "but not really even complaining"..

Sounds like you have a dealer willing to keep you happy.

Also a wobble feel through the steering wheel if the front rotors are warped.
Look, I'm not an automotive expert, but from my reading, this is not a warped rotor. Do your research on this before you have a dealer replace rotors. You need to understand proper bedding of Brembo brake pads.

He didn't 'have them' replace the rotors. KIA are the ones who decided to address this by rotor replacement - it's not the car owner's call.

Maybe after they've replaced enough of them it will show up highlighted on a management report somewhere.

I had my rears replaced a few months ago, around 10k miles more and the fronts started acting up, took a couple weeks for the dealer to get replacements.

I think its best to document this with a dealer while under warranty, let them replace parts if that's what they want.

So I took my Kia Stinger GTII into the dealer today for my appointment which was supposed to be a diagnosis appointment which most likely would result in them replacing the rotors and pads for free. I got there, and they said that the rotors and pads are on national back order by 1-2 months and he thinks they may be in the process of upgrading the parts since so many people are having them replaced, though he claims he's only had 3 sitingers come in for this, all around 9-11K miles. They didn't even do the diagnosis they just ordered the parts and said we will call you when they're in. in the meantime, hammer the shit out of your brakes. It doesn't matter now.

Problem is they say they'll only do it once...we shall see

Ask for Linda

I replaced the rotors, thankfully Kia picked this up since i was beyond their warranty time/kms limit.
Thinking of mentioning this again at my next service, hope they have some alternatives now, but i'm in the early stages of mild annoyance right now.
