Radar Detectors / Waze Discussion

Don't count on Waze coming to Apple CarPlay. It's a competitive app, whereas Google owns Waze, so it's in their interest to enable it.

Well what do ya know?! There's another one out there - I forget what it's called - but it's basically the same as Waze. Maybe Apple needs to buy that one...

Well, that sucketh. Guess I'll still have a mount on the glass...no waze is no bueno. BTW, if you don't know, GA has a super speeder law where the penalty adds $200 to any ticket. Nearly $600 one time for a spot coming into ATL where it drop from 70 to 55 in short order. Let's just say I was north of 80 when the laser/cycle escorted me off the road.

There are track days available at many race tracks and at private racing country clubs, the latter is more expensive. Both have track day insurance available. Another option is SCCA Autocross. I am looking into both in the Atlanta area. Also, going to show it off and Caffeine and Octane, where gearheads of all type go to show off their wheels.

Cool, maybe i'll look into the track insurance.

Just noting that I tried Waze with Android Auto in my car and it's really great! This is going to change things for the Waze app and community BIG time - because now it's extremely easy to mark locations with the various options - where as before, it was dangerous to do so. I guess unless you had your phone propped up on the dash - but most people don't have that. Now it's a no brainer to use Waze while driving...

I just picked up a Whistler Pro 3600, but it's sitting on the shelf, as I didn't anticipate it being such a PITA to get access to the inside of the front grill. I might be able to squeeze it behind the lower one by just removing the frontmost panel under the radiator, but it would be tight . It looks like the entire front bumper cover / apron has to be removed to get at the top one. Ugh.

Does anybody know if radar detectors without external module working fine in Stinger below GT2? Those cars haven't adaptive cruise afaik so should not have interfering laser signals or your radar will beep all the time.

It's not the car your driving that causes issues, it's all the other cars on the road whose radars are pinging your car
I think the newer detectors work better at filtering those signals, but honestly I just gave up on using one.
I switched to WAZE and it has not let me down, I have never come up on a cop that has not already been marked on WAZE

Waze here, all the way. It works in any vehicle, including on a motorcycle, and you always have it with you.

It often alerts to LEO that are no longer there, but you typically find them a little waze down the road. :)

Also, going to show it off and Caffeine and Octane, where gearheads of all type go to show off their wheels.

Could not find a Stinger this past weekend - were you there?

I was there at Perimeter Mall last time it was held.

1) hardly any cops use radar, most have moved to laser. Yes I know that most detectors can detect laser but by then it's too late. It's locked on by that point and they got you.
2) if you do get pulled over and have a radar detector. Prepare to get the worst ticket that cop can give you. I've found if your repectful tell the cop you know you shouldn't have been going that fast you can get off with a warning or a ticket for over 9 over instead of 20 over. 9 over doesn't hit your driving record or insurance.
No radar detector for me....
That may be the case in Minnesota, but most cops in the South and Southwest seem to still use radar. My detectors have saved me a lot of money over the years by alerting me in time to slow down.

I don't normally drive more than 3 or 4 over the limit, but you sometimes drift over without realizing it, and getting an alert can save your bacon.

I agree on laser - you're usually caught if you get the alert, but occasionally you get enough time to slow down.

Iowa still seems to be primarily Ka band radar, plus cams. So waze and a detector are a pretty good combo.

I just had a few chugs o whisky and dremelled right through my bottom front grill last night. Breath was held!
