Cell phone holder placement

It's not really $60 for a single phone mount though. It's $30 for the car piece, then $20-30 per phone you get. Most people get new phones before new cars. You don't have to replace the phone holder part when you change your phone.

lol Right.

I like the left side for the following reasons:
  1. The phone is located in what is already a blind-spot
  2. The phone is more eye-level (Jb4 app, NAV, etc...)
  3. The pillar shades the phone so it doesn't get quite so hot
  4. The have the vent partially hit the phone to keep it cool
  5. I don't like anything stuck to the dash (I've tried to clean a sticky Velcro mess from an old car dash where a radar detector was placed. Not easy.) I don't want to take a chance of some goo or discoloration on the dash.
The only thing I don't like is the look of the suction cup from the outside. But, I sit on the inside...

I thought I'd throw in the radar detector mount too. The detector's power is connected to the mirror's power.

Yup, I see from the pictures that I need to clean the mirror and my radio!

Ya buttons look covered but not sure which of those buttons I would use regularly anyway. Maybe the radio tuning knob.
Keep your eyes on the road. Put your phone in the trunk. Enjoy the drive.

All things are possible. I have used a small magnetic holder double sided taped to the dash. Worked great.
I would love to use one of those if it didn't require I either stick something to the back of my phone or use a case.

What goes on the back of the phone is a .030 thick piece of sheet metal.

If you can sacrifice a cup holder it’s a good spot since your hand is naturally resting in the area. For the times I want to use ApplePlay I keep a foot long usb cable and run that through an access port on back of this holder up to the phone. It’s barely noticeable and clean. Personally I drive with my hand resting on the shifter so this makes going back and forth really easy.

Im not as familiar with the ProClip. Is that the two part system that was mentioned on the previous page. I assume we are looking at both parts here (the not visible "mount") and the visible phone attachment part? I really like this location and also the built in USB "dock" such that you are plugged in ready to charge or use AA/carplay as soon as you put the phone on the mount.
Can you share a few more details?

All of that is correct, yes. So far it feels very solid. I’ve been using 2 hands to put the phone in since my iPhone has a case and it’s a snug fit, but liking the convenience a lot. You have to lean forward a smidge for the facial scan to unlock, but otherwise location is great.

This is my current set up. I’m not incredibly happy with it just yet. Do do like the ProClip set up OnTheRoad has. I want the convince of just plugging it in. I had not seen the ProClip in my search but may try that one.

Mine is sturdy enough for driving but can not support the phone sideways really. And the cable clips have already come off once so can’t put too much pressure when inserting the phone.

I'm actually pretty disappointed with mine. I ordered the generic padded case without any charging cable since I had my own. The case doesn't extend out as far from the dashboard as the one you ordered so I can't actually plug in the cable as it's too close to the dash.

My biggest gripe, though, is that it's too high and the phone comes up from the hood/dash horizon and into my field of view out the windshield. I really wanted a solution that didn't block my vision at all and this comes up a bit too much for my liking.

Unfortunately, this is going back, my only hope at this point is the Baseus holder I ordered off AliExpress. Hopefully that one comes through.

Sorry to hear.

Yea I really wanted a one-handed and one-step solution rather than docking the phone and then inserting the charging cable. So far I haven't noticed any field of view issues, but I'm 6'1 and it does block my view of part of the car's front hood. Just not the road.

I did this with one of those jb4 magnetic cellphone holders. Then I glued it on top of 2 heat sinks from a computer because the magnetic holder by itself is to low.

Do you have a pic with a phone on there? This is the placement I am planning and have basically all but settled on the JB4 magnet mount as well. Would appreciate a few more pictures if you have them. THanks,

I don't know what the hell is going on with the restrictions on this forum, but I've been trying to post a decent response for like 20 minutes. First I'm prohibited from posting photos, then I'm prohibited from posting links, now it won't even let me copy my previous posts text into my reply sans link. da fuq, mods?

Anyway, I've got a decent proclip setup rigged up that I'd love to share if I can get out of automod jail.
