Has anyone run a tap to the fuse box for a dashcam? I'm planning on running one to the driver's side fuse box.

I found a hot lead with no fuse pushing 12V even without ignition right to the right of the "fuse switch" above the fuse labeled "module."

Unfortunately there's no amperage rating on it, but I assume a dashcam wouldn't use more than 5A and a 5A fuse would work for it...anyone have any insight?

Edit: Whoops, I didn't realize I posted this in the exterior forum...if a mod/someone wants to move this over to the interior section, I'd appreciate it!

Dash cam connected to fuse tap for bi-modal exhaust.

My dashcam uses a USB cable so I have a 20 to 5a socket installled. It's out of site and could be used for other devices as well.

Looks like that 20A line is for "power outlet," do you happen to know which one it goes to?

It was the tap for the bi-modal exhaust.

Was that an aftermarket add-on? That would have to have been tapped from something that came stock on the car, and from the picture it looks like it was tapped off of the top "power outlet" fuse.

In AU the bi-modal exhaust is a system developed locally for KIA and usually dealer fitted. I don't think KIA market the system outside of AU/NZ.

I used add-a-circuit fuse TAPs. I connected the dashcam to a Blackvue Power Magic Pro, with the live lead to the passenger seat fuse (left box in the image) and the switched to the Module 4 fuse on the right. I used a 5 amp fuse for both circuits.

There are lotsa of other options (I think some have used the dome light) that have been discussed in other threads too.

Cheers

I have same connection on my eyeride fleet cam. I used add-a-circuit fuse TAPs too.

Thanks guys. I got it hooked up successfully.

I used an empty connector above the 10A "MODULE" fuse since it supplies constant 12V even when the ignition is off.

Getting a ground bolt was a pain in the ass, ended up having to unhook a majority of the under-steering-wheel panel to get to the left bolt holding the knee airbag in place.

Any tips for hiding the cable in the A-pillar? I tried unhooking it but it seems pretty secured in there. I have just a bit of it poking out around the bottom of the A-pillar now, but my ultimate goal is to completely hide it.

Pull the A pillar moulding from the top and it will open up enough to get the cable behind the airbag then run it to the bottom.

I got it to pop out along the top, but I couldn't get it to pop out at all along the bottom, looks like it's kind of shoved down into the dash.

The cable should go down the side then just squeeze it around/through the gap at the bottom and it won't be visible.

Mine works fine with the fuse tap; however, sometimes when my idle stop & go activates (car shuts off) the voltage must drop too low because the dash cam turns off and says 'low power detected'. Not sure if anyone has experienced the same? Typically the unit shuts off after 15 seconds from when I turn the ignition off per my settings.

Sounds like an issue with the fuse-to-USB adapter you're using, or perhaps the fuse you tapped into. Regardless of the engine state, the properly used fuse should be outputting 12V.
