OEM Wheel Weight!

N my 2018 Mustang the stock wheels were 33.5 lbs, replaced them with some 21lb P51 wheels, the difference was easily noticable, even in everyday driving. The car was more responsive, turn in felt a little more crisp. It’s a worthy upgrade for sure.
Well, is this my chance to compare. I have the GT rims and Nitto Motivo A/S tires on for the time being. When I try them out in a "spirited" driving fashion, the feeling of steering and responsiveness will be duly noted. Then when I change back to the Watkins and summer tires, I'll go back over the same movements and road surfaces to compare. This of course won't be a completed comparison for quite a while: the rest of February and most of March I expect.

I have come a thousand miles to Texas, and I'm not able to say positively that the lighter rims with summer tires are a handling upgrade over the OE GT rims and A/S tires. I think that they are. But until I get on a stretch of road back home where I tried the G meter, I won't have a positive check on any differences.

Does anyone know thebweight of the 2.0 18s?

I dropped a tenth off my 0-60 with 22 lb rims same tires.

I believe it. But I don't do 0-60 (much less dragstrip) exploits. I'm into Gs, and the "Song of Tires".

Ahh i thought you ment straight line Gs

I really need a set of light wheels. I’m sitting on two sets of factory 19s with Michelins.

How in the world did you wind up with two sets of OE wheels and Michelins?
Did a buyback for my a yellow Stinger, but I had them also reimburse me for the wheels I bought. So, I ended up having the OEM from that car. Then, I found a great deal on another new Yellow Stinger. So I got that.

Those wheels are still pretty heavy, mine at the same width are 19lbs/22lbs.

I just added General GMAX RS 245/40-19's summers on Rohana RF1 19x8.5

The combo is definitely lighter than the 18" stockers with stock Bridgestones AS tires .

The car definitely handles better and the suspension feels stiffer and more controlled for sure.
The comfort setting used to be like mush before and I drove around with the suspension on sport all the time.
now sport is stiff and comfort is perfect for NJ bad roads.

Yah, werid - that's what the scale says.
Not to concerned for weight as i am all about the look, few less pounds is a bonus.

Very heavy. My 19x8.5 / 19x10 are 21-22lbs each (Forgestar CF5V)

Wheel weight fixation. Heh! :D I don't really care. I wasn't working at weight reduction when I bought aftermarket rims. I was looking for a way to minimize damage to the rims I choose for summer; and make winter attrition easier to mask with a repair, via touch up brushing (or even black Sharpie/"Marks a Lot"). Discovering how much lighter these aftermarket rims are is just a bonus to me too. Of course, being a lot lighter than the OE rims, the aftermarket rims become a "toy" to push performance. So, of course, I am going to continue to be interested in the differences that the reduced weight produce.

Drum roll please - the OEM wheel weight for the 19 inch staggered wheels on the GT RWD is 35 lbs for the front and 33 lbs for the rear. I asked the shop putting on my new wheels if they were sure that the 19x8.5 weighed more than the 19x9.5 and they said shockingly, yes. They are guessing it’s because the back pad on the 19x8.5 are bigger than the 19x9.5. In fact, the wheels I purchased also weighed more on the front wheels than the back.

I was curious about the weights myself and found this post. Very informative. Keep in mind that the OEM staggered wheels are actually 19x8 fronts (part number 52910-J5210) and 19x8.5 rears (part number 52910-J5260).

So here is the weight! Any rotary forged wheel should drop 10lbs or more from the wheels.
While I believe "rotary forged" will drop the weight, I don't know if it'll do it by 10lbs or more. "Rotary Forged" is a marketing term (and misleading IMO) for the "flow formed" process. Other companies call that same process "spun forged", art, Enkei's MAT process, etc.
A truly forged wheel should be lighter than a flow formed wheel of the same design, closer to that 10 lbs or more, but at a much higher cost.

TSW are definitely more than 10 lbs lighter than the OE GT rims. See previous posts about this.

And they are not cheap, but a lot less than replacing a "boat anchor" OE rim. :P

I agree.

Rotary forged are lighter and you can feel it.
