Sorry guys, intake noob here. If I just put some K&N drop in filters into the stock air boxes here... will I hear any of the turbo sounds?
you will not. The stock air boxes quite down the turbo noise a lot.
So robz32 and Soca Boy are both correct. Popped in the K&N drop in filters yesterday, drove around 50 miles under varying acceleration conditions, couldn't hear any difference. No turbo blow off sound for sure. To mentally justify the $100 on the filters, I did notice at idle, it felt slightly smoother (99% sure it's a placebo effect here).you will not. Under low rpm acceleration a keen ear can hear a faint whistle when stockI might have heard the first hint of a whistle on my last road trip. But if I did, it isn't continuous and has not repeated. Almost 19K miles here.
"Keen ear",Under low rpm acceleration a keen ear can hear a faint whistle when stock
Indeed. I only have the 2020 2.0 and inbetween 1000 and 3000 rpm of slowly accelerating- I can hear the whistle plain as day. Anything over 3 rpm is seems the engine drones out the whistle. I know nothing about cars by the way. I just know how to drive them hahaUnder low rpm acceleration a keen ear can hear a faint whistle when stock
What occurred that made them look for the problem?Update to this - found out my driver's side turbo fins were bent. Kia is initially surmising that it's due to a loose locknut and/or too much play in the shaft. They are replacing it. Will update when I have more info.
It sounded like a whistle, which lead to the turbo. They checked the inlet and outlet seals. When they removed one, it was significantly more pronounced. That led them to look at the blades themselves and then saw the problem. What occurred that made them look for the problem?
