Bye bye Stinger

Yep, accidents do happen no matter how prepared you are, just have to do your best.

The field has been narrowed so it's down to the G70, G80 and Stinger. Now it's down to who can get me the best deal.

Well look what I found! This is just about similar to how things happened that night of the accident, watch the last portion of the video. Difference is by the time I corrected and got it straight, there was not enough grip or room to stop and the car just went straight to the tree.

Yeah.. most public roads are a little narrower than that skid pad.. it's great to teach technique, but you're going to need a lot of luck to recover while still pointing directly down the road.

Wow, I've never bought a car that way, excepting some low budget winter beaters in my misspent youth. Do you see all three of those as equally appealing?

Myself, I spend a huge amount of time (sometimes years, as in the Stinger's case) narrowing it down to the one car that I really want, including options and color - then go beat up the dealers as to who can give the best deal on it. If the manufacturer's don't have something I really want, I'm fine without buying anything.

If I had multiple possibilities in play, I'd be forever second guessing myself after purchasing.

Yep, they all have the 3.3T engine. Heck, I like the K900 too but the local guys aren't budging on their prices while I'm seen other places advertising up to 10k off theirs, but you know dealers, the want to add back in stuff into the price. With the weather being like it is, driving or flying someplace to pick up and drive back home will end up being a long drive.

Man, this is all pretty simple! Increase your odds of success and decrease your odds of failure. Better tires = better odds of success and decreases your odds of failure. Speed is similar, but I would never say one thing is the all prover (I made that word up) of success/failure. Saying something like the difference between A/S and winter tires isn't enough to matter...is obviously incorrect. Every bit helps, always. I'm from Vegas, basically born and raised...so that's the name of the game from both the house and the gambler. And yes, we see snow here once every other year...so my knowledge is not on snow. My knowledge is simply knowing that even a half percent tipping in your favor is enough to matter and create better success odds.

By the way @Waynerm002 , sorry for the loss and glad you're all good...BUT, I strongly believe you should get a snow plow and be done with it!

I vote snow cat, just go around tearing the roads. Better yet, have a conversion done on a Stinger just for the snow .LOL

Increase your odds of success and decrease your odds of failure.
If only driving in the winter around here were that simple. Many places have mild winters as far as road conditions goes: so the majority of the time a winter tire is wasted; and even increasing the odds of something unwanted happening if you try to drive a car like this for what it is designed to do: Sport with. Winter tires, summer tires and everything between, find their optimal performance in bands of often overlapping conditions. There are temperatures and road conditions where, for instance A/S and winter tires of a particular brand are equal; warmer, the A/S takes over; colder, the opposite. Just focusing on stopping performance and cornering speeds in the snow or on ice is a narrow comparison. Weather changes too often and extremely to warrant going a full winter on snow tires around here. The compromise is to slow down when the weather turns hellish.

It is pretty simple. Look at the average conditions year round for a place and plan accordingly. I think the planning thing was mentioned earlier.

In any event, A/S and snow tires are different and one (I'll give you two guess and I'll even tell you it's not A/S tires) is better in the snow. Yes...it is that simple and provides for a better success rate. But...I'm not a snow guy so I'll just go by what those who live in the snow say. By the way...they say that snow tires are better in the snow.

Yes, and the better in the snow they are the more they suck at everything else. Since around here winters are almost always snow free (and usually the roads are plowed and salted and dried off within one or two days of a decent snow storm) it doesn't make sense to put them on if you're not going up and down the canyons. Our winters over the last couple of decades have trended toward more mild, even while our road maintenance (especially snow removal) has improved remarkably.

:(

Sorry for your loss, @Waynerm002. She was a beauty. Hope you find a new girl soon...one that likes to play in the snow. :)

I already have a new one, with snow shoes and of course we have to get 60 degree weather this week.
I missed that! Congrats! Yeah the weather around here lately is nuts.

@Waynerm002 ...just remember, you need summer tires, A/S tires, winter tires, 78 degree tires, 60 degree tires, 47 degree tires, etc!!!! ;)

Next? Who knows. I’m back in a Stinger so nothing on the shopping list for the immediate future.

Crap, those are saddening pictures. Lots of good parts on that dead car. That's the only positive angle I can summon.:(

Depends on how you look at it. Got it for $41k+, after 5 months, it was worth $43k+. Missed the car, but getting more than you paid for it, that’s a positive in my book, plus the 2019 is a better one overall. I had some niggles but that never stopped me from enjoying it. I just figured I would wait until 2020 or 21 to get into another, that timeline got pushed up and while I thought they would be roughly the same, this one is closer to the G70 I drove in overall quality, quietness and sound performance. I’m so tempted to get some springs and throw on it as now I notice that extra rocking when I come to a stop. Something that was eliminated on the Optima with lowering springs.
