I wanted to get your guys' opinion on what might be happening with my Kia Stinger 2.0L. I purchased it in January 2018 and in a year I have put 30k miles on it, mostly highway miles. I have had the oil changed every 5k-7k miles and tires rotated every 10k to 15k miles. The cabin filter and engine filter have been replaced in the last 10k miles. All fluids have been refilled at every oil change appt. with Kia.

Just a couple weeks ago, I noticed something blueish and viscous on the ground below where my car was parked overnight. I thought it might have been coolant, so I checked my levels and looked around for any leaks. The levels were fine, but I did find a connector on the cabin side of the heater core that has dried up white residue on the connecting fittings. I have also noticed since then, that the car has made gurgling noises when first started and accelerating. These sounds can be heard from inside the cabin and sound like they are coming from just behind the glove compartment.

When driving my car yesterday, I drove for an hour on the free way (75mph speeds) then I stopped at the grocery store for 10 minutes. I got in the car and I didn't notice anything different about how it was driving in the city. Less than 5 minutes later, I was heading back to the freeway and as I stepped on it to merge into the freeway, I got a "Engine Overheating!!!" warning on the dash. I looked at my temperature and it was climbing up at a very fast rate. I pulled over immediately and I put the car in Park with hazard lights on. I saw turned off the air and opened the windows and saw that the temperature went back to normal temps (just under halfway on gauge). After 3 minutes of waiting, I put the car back into drive and took off at 60 mph. I stepped on it again and I noticed the temperature dip slightly over halfway then steady again just under the halfway mark of the temp gauge. I went home (<5 miles away) and I opened the hood and saw there was nothing indicative of a leak or lack of fluids. With the hood closed, the car in park, and heater turned to maximum, I revved the engine at 2000 rpm for 2 minutes and the temperature never went over the halfway mark. The car still gurgles, but I can't reproduce the overheating event. I have drove it 40 miles on the freeway at regular speeds since then and I haven't noticed anything wrong with the car.

I took it into Kia to look at it today. Every where I called was overbooked 10+ cars so there's no telling when I will get a response. Does anyone have anything similar happening to them or any thoughts as to what might be the cause of what I'm experiencing with my Stinger?

EDIT: Issue Number SA333 - 2018 Check Automatic Transmission Fluid Warmer Connector
This is the connector that had the residue on it and the one that they are going to do the replacement at.

Air trapped in the cooling system? Is the overflow tank at the proper level?

If by the overflow tank you mean the white plastic fluid container at the front right of the engine. It is at F.

I just got a call from Kia, the rep told me there was a leak with a valve at the connector I mentioned next to the heater core. They are going to order a part and get me a rental. He said there was a TSB out for that valve; however, I haven't seen one on these forums. I will follow up when I get more information.

Little tip for you, fastest way to cool that overheating engine besides pulling over is to put your windows down and turn your temperature all the way up and run your fan at full speed, that will pull all the heat from the engine bay and toss it into the cabin, it works if you need to get that temperature down quickly before you can find a place to pull over.
