I take it that it was so easy to remove the door panel that no how-to is required?

Yea I left it. I'm not sure what felt filter they're talking about. Maybe my car doesn't have it. I noticed slight differences between his car and mine. My door unlock/open pulleys are different colors than his, for example.

The panels are easy to remove. The plastic bolted to the metal on the door isn't.

And where is this felt you mentioned?

Edit: Okay, I took the door panels off. Is the felt you all are removing the white fabric that lines the door? I don't see how that can improve sound.

Or is it this foamish material surrounding the speaker's perimeter?

It's in the speaker grill. Remove the metal grill by bending the clips whick hold them in place. The thick felt in under the metal grill.

Ahhh, I know exactly what you're referring to. I just bought a ton of dynamat and dynaliner. When it gets here I'll take that off and hopefully reap the benefits.

I actually took one off but couldn't find a way to remove the felt. Did you just pick it out? Or is there a way to separate the plastic that is on the opposite side of it? I think I remember seeing metal clips hiding the plastic onto the metal grill?

When I turn the volume up other parts of car rattles before the door do. The sunroof assembly is the first to rattle, followed by the seat belt anchor point then the rear pascel shelf. Probably worth dynamet the rear pascel shelf.

Here you are, remove the speakers at the door card
remove the 3 screws below the midrange speakers, the grill will pop out at the other side

Bend the clips to remove the grill, I have already removed the felt. when you put it back put a few small pieces 1mm thick double sided tape around the plastic rim. That will stop it from rattling.


As for the tweeter just bend those metal clips upwards. Push on the metal clips and you should be abot to just pop the metal metal grills out. Again put some double sided tape in between the metal and plastic grill. Note that the metal taps are labelled so you wouldn't put it back the wrong way.

Man, I had that crap off and ALMOST bent those clips to see if I could remove the felt but I wasn't sure if it was the right place.

As for the dynamat on the doors I'm mostly doing it for the luxury car "thunk". I'm going to remove the speaker and reach into the door and apply a few strips. I may dynomat over the plastic but I don't think that would make any difference.

Since the car is a hatchback most of the noise comes from behind the back seat. I'm going to dynamat the entire trunk and under the rear seats. Then I'm going to apply the dynaliner over that.

I've done all the performance mods and appearance mods so now I'm starting to work on making the interior feel more high end. Also ordered some supplemental ambient lighting. Those mods combined should give a more upscale feel.

Found an easier way to remove the felt. After taking the speaker off I just pulled the material out with a pair of pliers. They all came out in one piece and saved me a few minutes.

I havent heard a rattle yet. I've cranked up to around 12 and it sounds perfect.

Only to 12...try 25. Now you just have to change the mids and throw in a crossover to really bring out the sound quality . I have turned it up to 40, no problem

@andrew tay for those of us without experience making spacers do you think the factory 1" spacers can be separated from the speakers and reused in new speakers?

I can't find an aftermarket 1" space anywhere. I have found a .5" that should work if I find a speaker with a mounting depth of under 2.35".

Stage 2.. Install amp for the door woofers. View attachment 15543 Managed to fit a little focal 4/800 at the same spot. Has to be less than 15cm tall to fit in there with wires running the sides

Also managed to fit Audiocontrol lc6 behind the fuse tray. I use roof silicon to glue a thin 3mm mdf onto the car frame and velcro lc6 onto the board.

Signal from the factory amp. refer to the wiring chart that you already have. PS I found that changing the mids makes a greater difference than the woofers at the door.

I did this and put sound deadening material behind the woofers and it is a significant difference! I only did the drivers side doors as it's getting dark, but so far I highly recommend it.
