I was driving to work today and was about 20 minutes into the journey along the motorway and suddenly a high pitch continuous whistling noise starts making a racket while i'm cruising at 70mph. I let off the accelerator and i get the same noise, i accelerate a bit more, same noise. After a few minutes i am getting kinda worried and the noise is definitely coming from my vehicle. I take an early exit and come to a roundabout junction and as i'm slowing down past 20mph, the noise disappears.. so i rejoin the motorway and continue my journey for another 10-15 mins with the radio off, listening to whether this whistling noise will return.

It didn't come back but i am worried something is wrong.. is it worth taking it to the dealer to get it checked out? i've never heard this noise before so it's a little disconcerting.

Well if letting off the accelerator didn't stop it, it's likely not engine related.

By chance was something maybe in your grille or under the car causing the whistle & fell off when you slowed. Any warning lights on the dash? It could also be your under skirts, have a look underneath & make sure nothing has come loose.
You can mention it to your dealer but unless they can replicate the noise they probably cannot do anything.

That's a relief!

Yes that's true, i didn't think of that (do'h!) i've just checked and there doesnt appear to be any foreign object in the grill or under the car. No warning lights came on either. I imagine it was something stuck to the car that fell off.

Window not fully closed?

Yeah i checked they were closed and also turned the A/C off to check it wasn't that. My sunroof is closed too (it's 1 degree here lol).

thanks for your help guys, will monitor, but hopefuly it was a loose item on the motorway stuck to my car!

Could've been something as simple as the direction of the wind hitting the car and causing a whistle. I wouldn't be too concerned unless its a reoccuring issue.

Last time that happened to me, it was one of the windows not fully closed. The noise was loud and annoying.

went on a longish trip over the weekend and haven't heard it since. Car is performing as normal, so must have been debris from the road, which is a relief!

This happens to mine.
2020 GT2 AWD and at 105mph is starts whistling on the passenger side.
It persist when I slow down, but if I lower and raise the window a little, it goes away.
The second I go back over 105, it starts again.

Pretty odd, never seen this happen in a car.
Must be something wrong with the window seal or its programming that lowers the window slightly.

Maybe the 2020 cars have a built-in warning when you are hitting excessive extralegal speeds!:P
Or perhaps you've got an intermittent whistle coming off one of your dark chrome window strips on the passenger side. If it isn't solidly attached its entire length, wind could get in under it and cause vibration. On another thread, someone described his discovery of this very thing; I believe he went along the chrome strip, prying exploratively with his fingers and found the loose part that way.
